If this was very well received a sequel would already be on the way. Given the ho hum reception they'd expect a sequel to do less. So a sequel is possible but not guaranteed. |

gutted too. it even sets up one. Insane that a 285 million WW gross movie will not even get a sequel. Just downright insanity. And it also only cost about 90 million. So it made 3 times its budget. Never seen a movie making this and not get a sequel.

I guess I wasn't expecting much given the critical drubbing and weak box-office that greeted this film earlier in the year, but I caught this on HBO this morning and enjoyed the hell out of it. An excitingly paced, unpretentious B-movie that worked like a good old-fashioned adventure serial. The action was fast and (blessedly) spatially coherent; none of that over-edited BS that renders so many action sequences a visual blur nowadays, and the climax felt like an Indiana Jones film done right.
I was pleasantly surprised at just how effective Alicia Vikander's Lara Croft was: so many Oscar-winning and nominated actors take on roles in action-fantasy and treat them as camp, but Vikander gives the part emotional weight and never acts like she's above it all and winking at the audience. I like Angelina Jolie, but her Lara Croft was such a combination of imperturbable cool and icy insouciance she was like nothing human (I'm sure it didn't help that I thought both of her Tomb Raider films were rubbish). Vikander is far more accessible, likable and vulnerable, and consequently comes across as far more relatable. That's not to say that the lithe and athletic Vikander isnt as brave, wily and badass as the role requires because she triumphs in those aspects as well. Kudos also to Walton Goggins, who provides the requisite menace and, like Vikander, doesn't let his performance slide into camp (it's a nice touch that as vile as he is, he's just working to get back to his family). The twist at the end sets up a potential franchise quite nicely, it really is a shame we'll not get to see it. Still, I thought this movie delivered the goods and look forward to revisiting it. Fear not. A sequel is in the works. With the aid of Ms. Vikander's voice talents, we'll be filming the sock puppet sequel this Spring.

This is one of only two films in my life where I've started watching and suddenly realised, "Life's too short for this.." and switched off the disc around the 10 minute mark. Prior to watching I was expecting to enjoy this quite a bit. It happens.

Better off just watching the cut scenes from the games.

I loved the first game from 2013. If I'm ever bitten by the PC upgrade bug again, I'm getting a better GPU and definitely playing the two sequels. The first was practically a female Uncharted minus the jaunty tone, but it was such great fun.
