Yes, I like "...ages" over "...isms"... We can turn any one Consonant word into an "...age".

Filmage...Foodage... Sexage... Bookage... Cookage.

Then there are real words such as Cabbage... Portage... Luggage... Borage... etc.

So the word Moobage comes from a 25th century ancient dialect once spoken by new worlders on Mars. The Moobage that Martians used around the year 2459 was coined slang for cows that no longer existed on the planet due to highly polluted atmospheres thanks to epidermal fallout due to watching too many Criterion films.

In a store, maybe? Shipped sets have been arriving early. Such as this one, and various others in the Bruce Lee thread:

I realize everyone has Criterion sale fever right now, so I'm not holding out any hope for much of a discussion on this. Here goes anyway...

Anyone else disappointed by HBO Max's Criterion selection? What was initially touted as a massive library with presumably its own individual hub has instead been rolled into the TCM section of the service with obvious future Criterions such as Jumping Jack Flash. (I like that movie, but come on now...)

It definitely doesn't make me regret my Criterion Channel subscription the way I thought I might.

You can't get what you always want I guess. But from what I've seen on their list, they seem to have all their essentials and it's more of a starter set for people who are willing to spend time watching films that they never heard of and trying to be open to other cultures which is great. But, at the same time, I don't think there's going to be a lot of people after COVID who will be interested in doing that. If you already have been with Criterion for about more than a year or so, I don't think the Criterion part is worth it, the HBO shows and all the other movies are worth it. Criterion is a small part but they're not the main attraction so I can see why it's not that great overall but they seem to include a lot of essential titles anyways

Don’t the Bergman/Godzilla sets come from Criterion already packed in an extra outer box to avoid this issue? Do B&N remove that outer box and just mail the set itself?

I though it’d be pretty safe ordering these because even if they’re not well packed it’d just be the outer box that’s damaged?

Good God, Barnes & Noble’s website is a disaster. I’m trying to enter an order, including Portrait of a Lady on Fire-which is listed on the default page for new releases by Criterion-yet when I select it, or Google the site name and movie title, I’m told “no search results found.”

I guess I’ll try again in the morning.

HUD is so good. I wonder if it will ever get upgraded to Blu-ray.

I'd love a copy of Hud to place near Hombre on the shelf. It's one of the best unreleased Paul Newman movies left.

As far as the sale, I went by Barnes and Noble to get the additional in-store discount and none of the five films I was looking for were on the shelf. After inquiring at the checkout counter, an employee managed to find all five in the back. He also let me reserve a copy of the Bruce Lee set for pickup next Tuesday. Good stuff. I picked up:

Fail-safe
The Great Escape
Come and See (I'm really excited to finally see this)
Portrait of a Lady on Fire
War of the Worlds (It's about time)

The media section at the Barnes and Noble I visited was halfway filled with Funko Pop bobblehead displays. The Criterion selection was OK but thinner than I can recall it being in the past. The Funko Pop displays remind me of Movie Stop, right before the end, when half the floor got replaced by toys.

I hope B&N gets more of the Bergman set in stock otherwise I will have to wait until November to get it.

When I got to the store to pick up my online order for Ace In The Hole, Rumble Fish, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Scorsese Shorts, along with blind buys Brazil and The Story of Temple Drake, I also decided to pick up The Asphalt Jungle, Blow-Up, The Killers, and Gilda which I had completely forgot about. Here's the best part...

At checkout / pickup I said I'd like to get a membership and asked about applying it to the online order. The manager said he'd have to return them and then have me re-buy, which I was fine with. Turns out the girl checking me out then used the new member first purchase discount to take an extra 20% (not 10%) off of everything I was buying, so the membership has already paid for itself and then some!

Still considering The Fisher King, Detour and maybe upgrades for The Great Escape, His Girl Friday and It Happened One Night.

Does B&N combine multiple orders into a single shipment?

It is absolutely terrible. The search function is horrible, and the books often show different editions from what you get when it arrives. Much better to have them order and pick up in store.

Great idea, too bad B&N stubbornly refuses to join the 21st Century and implement ship to store like everybody else does.

Can't wait!

I don't know why you'd come to that conclusion. Warner has released 2001: A Space Odyssey and The Shining on UHD already, and will be releasing Full Metal Jacket on UHD in September. That's three out of the seven Kubrick titles Warner owns. It's not unreasonable to believe they'll release the others on UHD as well. Rumors abound that A Clockwork Orange will be next, and maybe Eyes Wide Shut.

So I'd say there's not much reason to believe that they won't do the same for Barry Lyndon and Lolita.

Prices and online stock were updated by mid-morning yesterday, so I was able to order WotW and Fail Safe which were not available online and priced regularly respectively when I did my big order at 12:30 am.

If you think Barry Lyndon is as widely known and popular as 2001 or The Shining, I have some waterfront property in Arizona you might like to purchase.
