Here's a couple of pics of the Special FNAC Edition I picked up today, as you can see the back states a Region B disc whereas the disc itself states being Region Free, I can test it later on if anyone's interested:

I never got that one! I wasn't that much into special editions back then and I wasn't that aware of the movie.
I already own the Blu-ray but haven't had the chance to watch it yet.

It’s excellent, well worth the watch!

The collectors edition was just like Slumdog - very well presented in the long retangular packaging.

For Slumdog Millionaire :

Just to let you know that the video is 1080 i not 1080 P !!

My PS3 System and my Sony Full HD 1080P LCD screen show 1080 i when I play the movie not 1080 P as usual.

Exactly like it did fot the Warner/US BD of Terminator 3 who was also 1080 i !!

The video is not bad but not as good as It should be.

As an exclusive edition you also have a bonus DVD with extra bonus.

Even weirder. I watched it tonight and my PS3 told me that it had an AVC codec, thus MPEG-4 and not VC-1 like it says on the packaging.

About the 1080i, I'll have to check again, but I find it really weird of them to not put the best quality possible.

Regarding the movie, the sad thing is that this edition, being pro-French, does not include the burnt in English subtitles present on English editions.
Some might find the movie less intrusive that way, but I thought they were a nice touch and am sad to see them lack on here.

I have, the movie is indeed at 1080i and 25fps but that was Danny Boyle's intention! He wanted to give the movie that extra boost caused by the extra frame per minute, making the movie 5 minutes shorter than its US counterpart.

It's all explained here:

Par ailleurs, en dehors d’un infime changement de cadrage et d’une colorimétrie renforcée, le master employé pour l’édition française est proposé en 1080i 25 images / seconde contre du 1080p 24 images / seconde sur le Blu-ray US. Contacté à ce sujet, Pathé nous a répondu qu’il s’agissait là d’un souhait émanant du réalisateur Danny Boyle qui a supervisé en personne ledit master HDCAM SR 1080i à 25 images / seconde et souhaitait ainsi insuffler davantage de peps à son montage déjà très cut. Le film défile donc un chouia plus vite et affiche une durée totale inférieure de 5 minutes au Blu-ray US (et par extension à la version salle). Dans les faits et en comparant les deux éditions sur la course-poursuite dans le bidonville en ouverture, la différence est très subtile mais présente effectivement un petit coup de boost supplémentaire sans pour autant altérer outre-mesure la stabilité et la fluidité d’ensemble du rendu vidéo.

So you could say the technically lower picture resolution is the "official" version.

Plus, it seems the French version has more saturated colours, which works better with the film.

Strange that the Packaging informations don't mention the 1080i picture...
Pathé is the worst french Blu-ray editor. Just check Kingdom Of Heaven: one of the worst picture I've seen on Blu-ray Format. I don't believe Pathé.
Well we can said this is the "Director's choice edition"...
But I think that the picture should have been 1080P.

a few questions concerning the Frech Blu-ray of "Slumdog":

Are the spoken parts with the foreign language somehow translated into English?

What is the difference between those two: http://www.amazon.fr/Slumdog-million...1125395&sr=1-8 & http://www.amazon.fr/Slumdog-million.../dp/B0025UAFVM ?

Is the two-disc version the one from this toppics head?

i don't think so (in Fnac Exclusive there is the word exclusive for a reason) but since the first link refers to something that only goes out in september it has to be something special ??? director's cut of some sort ?

The September 1st release is part of the new Blu-ray VIP product line by 20th Century Fox. They're re-releasing a lot of titles with a bonus DVD copy of the movie (hence the second disc) housed in a slipcover.
All the titles have been listed here.
