Every day I read this forum even before my email like many of you. Some of the topics I don't have a clue about especially with regard to audio but I am learning. I am mostly interested in picture quality and video game play but still I like to read all the posts.
The main concern I have is that almost daily I see two problems. Number one is the use of acronyms or terminology in which only those who have researched the subject area in great detail would be familiar with. Number two is the redundancy of posts. Neither is a big issue for me as I general don't like to read repeat posts and if I don't understand some terminology I go look it up elsewhere. Now it wouldn't be fair for me to present a problem without offering a solution like to many politicians, celebrities, etc. To the problem of using acronyms/advanced terminology I suggest a thread or specific forum (similar to the forums for General Discussion, Home Theater Systems, etc.) in which new and old members can go for these answers. The thread could like something like this: Blu-Ray Disc (BD) - A medium which holds 25 or 50 GB of storage commonly utilized for high definition content. High Definition DVD (HD-DVD) - blah blah blah The current glossary section attempts to solve this problem but it is very limited in its current content. To the problem of repeat posts, I would like to see a specific forum for (FAQ) or Frequently Posted Threads (FPT). Thus when a new user posts something which has been covered again and again (ex. Matrix Blu Ray, Loading Problems with specific blu ray players) we can quickly post a link to the FPT forum or equivalent so they can not only get the answer to there thread they can see all of the other commonly repeated threads. This would be a great place to start new members instead of making them feel unwelcome by saying, repeat thread or something along those lines. Let me know what everyone thinks. I am not a moderator so I cannot make these changes I am just suggesting a way to fix two common problems, repeat posts and the use of acronyms/advanced terminology. Working together with the knowledge base from this forum I believe these solutions or other suggested solutions could be implemented quickly. Thanks, Matthew Rounds |
