Default Hannibal Lecter anthology announced

According to TheDigitalBits site, Fox/MGM have announced a 'Hannibal Lecktor BD Anthology' for September 15th, which will contain 'Manhunter', 'The Silence Of The Lambs' and 'Hannibal'.

This is pretty frustrating for those who have already bought 'The Silence Of The Lambs' on BD but, as 'Manhunter' is one of my favourite films, I will probably spring for this set.

I'm wondering which cut of 'Manhunter' will be included. The last MGM DVD release was of the theatrical cut at about 120 minutes, but Anchor Bay previously released Michael Mann's "preferred director's version" at about 124 minutes. This is not a simple matter of one cut being an extended version of the other - each cut contains entire scenes and extra dialogue not included in the other cut. However, most of the extra scenes and shots in the director's preferred version were of lower technical quality on the Anchor Bay release. Unless they have been improved, it seems likely that the theatrical cut will be chosen for this BD release; on the whole, this is the cut I prefer anyway.

I bet it is RED DRAGON, and not MANHUNTER-- it would make sense to
have all 3 of the Anthony Hopkins films together--

but since I already bought SILENCE OF THE LAMBS-- MGM can shove this set-- (or release them seperately cause I'm not double dipping on ANYTHING)

It is Manhunter. Red Dragon is a Universal movie.

I agree. It's probably a typo.

I highly doubt it's a typo because, like someone above said, Red Dragon is a film by Universal.

Edit: So is Hannibal, but I assume MGM/Fox have the rights for distribution of that film

umm.... Anthony Hopkins and Edward Norton?

I liked Red Dragon better than Manhunter.

And where's Hannibal Rising in this set? That was a great movie.

Regardles of my low opinion on Brett Ratner as a director I think he did a better version of 'Red Dragon' than Michael Mann (being Mann a much better director than Ratner).

Red Dragon is perhaps the only good film directed by Ratner while Manhunter IMO is just an average flick in Mann's filmography. Mann have shot much better films than Manhunter.

Besides the cast in Red Dragon couldn't be better: Ralph Fiennes, Edward Norton, Anthony Hopkins, Emily Watson, Harvey Keitel, Philip Seymour Hoffman, etc. Red Dragon's cast pretty much outclasses Manhunter one's.

Another example: Michael Bay's The Rock is much better than Spielberg's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Being Spielberg 100 times better director than Michael Bay.

Accidents happens my friend, and Red Dragon was a happy accident.
IMO Red Dragon is the second best film in the saga just behind TSOTL.

Shame it includes Manhunter, which is just terrible compared to the other films.

I'd rather have Red Dragon, which was a much superior version of the book.

Look carefully at that announcement. It says blu-ray/DVD set. I'm guessing they are packing the Silence of the Lambs blu-ray with the previously released DVDs of Manhunter and Hannibal.

This is how it reads on digitalbits--it clearly says Blu-ray...

"Also newly announced for Blu-ray release by Fox/MGM are Lie to Me: Season 1 on 8/25, The Girl Next Door: Unrated and High Crimes on 9/1, and Misery (BD/DVD Combo), Child's Play (BD/DVD Combo) and the Hannibal Lecter Blu-ray Anthology (includes Manhunter, The Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal) on 9/15. No that makes absolutely no sense.

This set is likely exactly as announced. It is a Blu-ray anthology of the MGM properties which are "Manhunter," "Hannibal," and the previously released, "Silence of the Lambs." By the way, add me to the list of people who prefer "Manhunter," directed by Michael Mann and starring William Peterson, Joan Allen and Brian Cox as Dr. Hannibal Lecktor to the remake, "Red Dragon."

Disagree. Manhunter is awesome with William Peterson and Brian Cox. Way better than Red Dragon with Norton and Hopkins, even though I do enjoy Hopkins' work.

No typo. Manhunter, Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal are all MGM properties. Universal owns Red Dragon.

Uh, no, it's Manhunter. And I hope for separate releases also.

I wouldn't call it complete trash, but I do think Manhunter is much better.

Since when did Hannibal become a Universal property? I have always seen the MGM lion before this movie.

That doesn't make it a good movie.

I was just talking about distribution. It says that it has been distributed by MGM and Universal at some point.

I am only interested in RED DRAGON at this point. I already bought SILENCE/LAMBS for $14.99, so, even packaged together in this silly 3-pack, it couldnt be as cheap
