why do you need it to upscale? upscaling is the most over rated feature of receivers IMO. upscale your DVDs using your PS3 or let your TV do it. the receiver should be the last option to upscale.

THIS Pioneer, THIS Yamaha, THIS Onkyo, and THIS Harman Kardon are good $500-$600 options. I'd personally go with the Pioneer if you want to keep it at $500.

The Onkyo 607 is also on circuit city's website (they're baaaack) for, I believe, $495 shipped. That's the way I'd go, though I don't think it has the 2 HDMI outs your looking for. You may be hard pressed for under 5 bills to find that feature.
