Definite buys for me. Play.com (as usual) seem to be miles ahead in quality when it comes to getting their release schedules out there.

I really hope Brick is region free. I had been hoping there might be a small chance of it coming out since the director is releasing his new movie The Brothers Bloom

BRICK is a very cool movie and almost made my Top Ten a few years ago. Nice to see it getting the 1080p treatment. It seems here in the US we're mostly getting junk (Criterion exception noted) on Blu-ray...at least we cinephiles feel that way. I've probably imported more BDs than I've purchased domestically!

I just noticed that Dead Man's Shoes will be released in September. I am really hoping this movie is region free. This is one of my favs.

As much as I love Dead Man's Shoes, I don't expect it to look very good on BD for some reason.

Odd that this is the only post on the film and I can't find a Blu-ray review.

I'll scan the cover tomorrow and post it here but IIRC it's another in Optimum's We Don't Give a F*** and Don't Have a Clue Range™ so excised extras and 1080i. Excellent extras on their DVD of course and it's just £2.99 http://hmv.com/hmvweb/displayProduct...;-1&sku=343452 Less than 10 English pounds all in sounds good to me for this great British film.

1080i? Looks great to me.

Just like Brick, Austin Powers: IMOM and few other Optimums I simply add a swing tray (8p) to these and pop the DVD in. MGM/Fox do this in the USA and don't even mention the content. Cheaper my way

I took a chance at this being region free, it is not. I can get to the menu using the "top menu" workaround,.then the movie starts, I see the "Optimum" logo, then the screen goes dark. There is audio through out the whole movie, but sadly, no picture. Can anyone tell me why this is?

Also bought two other Optimum titles and the workaround actually works! Those two titles are Cry_Wolf and The Loved Ones.

These titles are not 1080/24p they are 1080/50i, hence it's not so much about the region coding but the fact that unless your player/tv supports 50hz (ie PAL), you wont be able to see the feature.

So I should be ok as long as the blus are not 1080/50i? Are there region A players that support hz?
Cry_Wolf and The Loved Ones are 1080 and work great.

well some are region locked despite being 1080p/24 so you would need discs that are both 1080p/24 and not region locked (or at least those on which the 'top menu' trick circumvents the region locking).

As for players, I believe a number in the US market convert 50hz to 60hz but I dont know more than that since I am not in the US.
