Put a Blu-ray disc in the drive and it just keeps clicking - does this with any Blu-ray disc I try. Put a regular DVD in and it plays - does this with any DVD. Anyone have or heard of this problem?

It will not play any BD - It was working fine last time I used it (about a month ago) tried to watch BD last night and none would play - I tried several discs - including the last ones that I watched a month ago. Now it acts as if there is a laser for BD that doesn't work, and one for SD that still works. I don't know if the player indeed has separate lasers, but that is what it acts like. Again, no Blu-ray will play at all - only regular DVDs.

I've already tried blowing it out with compressed air, and I've already unplugged the power. Still will not play BD - only plays regular DVDs.
I've had the unit for about a year - worked great up until last night. Thanks |

The BD30 has/had a problem with premature BD transport failure. These players use different lasers for BD and DVD/CD so even when the BD laser fails it will still play DVD's/CD's. Sounds like your BD drive/laser has failed and will need to be replaced by Panasonic. Many users reported early failures with the player under warranty and Panny fixed them quickly for no cost. You should contact them and see if they are willing to cover it under warranty. If not and they insist you have to pay for it, I would look for another player (not worth fixing at your own expense IMO).

We can repair the unit for you free of charge as long as you are in warranty. If you are outside of the one year warranty it will cost $130+parts and tax.
- my drive is one year 5 months old, and has been lightly used. I would think that if Panasonic knew of an issued, they would be more willing to fix it. I'm not going to pay $130 + parts + tax and then shipping - it would be cheaper to buy a new unit. I hope the new BD60 I just got lasts longer - if not, that will be my last panasonic unit. |

Sorry to hear that they are sticking strictly to the warranty terms. In that case, you made the right decision not to have it repaired and instead buy a more recent player. Hope the BD60 provides you with good service.
