Default 2009 Tennis Thread

If there is already one of these, please delete, thx.

Even though I am only a casual fan of tennis, this year is definitely starting off very different compared the last few.

Interesting few days already at the French Open:
Venus already gone
Serena calling someone "cheating"
Nadal falling after winning 31 straight matches and trying to win his fifth straight French Open
Federer on the cusp of his 14th Grand Slam and trying to tie Sampras at 14

Like to see Roger win the French, but I have not been up to date. I know Nadal lost. YES!

I just want Roger to beat Pete's GS title record.

Just curious and don't want to research it, what was the last Grand Slam that wasn't won by Federer or Nadal? As I ask this Federer is down 2-1 and Nadal is out so it could happen this year.

Good question, but I think it was the Austrlian Open in Jan 2008, won by Novak.

Federer pulled off the victory in 5 sets after being down 0-2. I've been really annoyed by the TV coverage of the French Open. I'm not much of a tennis fan but I am a huge sports fan so if something interesting is going on I want to watch it. Yesterday I wasn't able to watch Nadal's loss and today I didn't get to watch Federer's match.

Glad to see Federer win! He's been in a lot of close matches lately! He has to be my favorite Tennis player since Michael Chang left the game.

Not sure if Andy would get this far since he's not that great on Clay. Pretty much not a lot of US players are great on Clay compared to Hard Court.

Growing up and watching Tennis and playing just a little bit.. here's my Top 5 Tennis players of all time.. Started watching in 95.

1. Roger Federer (simply the best of all time)
2. Pete Sampras (can't forget about his final run at the 2001 US Open. He was not seeded in that tournament)
3. Michael Chang (loved his speed, and a heart of champion. My favorite player until he retired)
4. Andre Aggassi (hated him, but you have to respect at what he's done for a long time)
5. John Mcenroe (the most emotional player of all time )

I always found Sampras to be boring. He was a great player, but showed very little emotion and never fostered any controversy. I prefer players like Agassi and McEnroe that say what they think and don't hold everything in.

Nadal lost?! Wow, can't believe it. Now Federer can finally win the French! It's been tough watching him lose at the French all the time. If he's ever going to win the French, now would be the time. Go Fed!

I love Sampras...the consummate pro. Very classy player, dominated the game for quite some time and never made any excuses.

Huge Chang fan, partial bias because I'm asian

I like Federer, not a fan of his past couple of years though with the decline and all the complaining.

Roddick is a tool, hate the Williams sisters.

Tried to find flaws in Nadal but it's tough to hate the guy. He's a winner...

Federer wins another 5 set match! He's going to play Robin Soderling in the finals. I believe Federer only lost one set to this guy in 9 meetings.

He will tie Pete's GS title record of 14. IMO he's the best of all time since he had the #1 ranking for a few years in a row.

Above all.. Roger still has plenty left in the tank and he can win a few, if not several more GS titles.
