Default The only thing i guess i have to do is start looking at AMPS ,Any Suggestions

Just ordered my Harmony 1100.
This usually means i have a completed system. --RIGHT --WRONG

Before that i dropped around a grand just for interior stuff for my systems room (I'll put new picks in my gallery in a couple of days)

Now iam thinking of taking the next step into my audio sickness,I really don't think i have anyway else to go at this time,
So iam thinking about making my reciever my preamp.

Now what do you boys think the best course is for me to take.
And am counting on vets here that have made mistakes in the past and could direct me on the right path.

I live in Canada if this matters. And iam one of those guys that always wants the best deals i can get out there without losing high quality and without breaking the bank

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated

The Canadian $ is going well against the US sawbuck, so this may be a good time to proceed getting into seperates.

Emotiva and Outlaw are good considerations, as they offer terrific value and most people that own their equipment seem to be pleased with their performance. I'd start perusing those threads and find info.

Secondly, take a look at Audiogon and CanuckAudioMart for some "gently" used equipment. There can be some really good deals posted.

Your higher end Audio Shops often-times have deals on demo equipment as well, so don't discount taking a drive and visiting a few.

The bottom line though....what is your budget for this and what kind of amp do you want? 2-channel? 3-channel? etc>.....

John

You could also biamp your fronts and amp your center with one of these while leaving surround duty to the receiver.

I was looking over the shoulder for the wife while digging up those links!

When I have the funds freed up to do it, it is the route I will take. Then maybe add another amp down the road for surrounds....

Hey Ozzman, when you're buying stuff from the U.S. check out this link to get a rough estimate of the total damages to your bank. I just used this tool to get an idea of what the Oppo might cost me after duties. Sometimes it sucks as a Canadian to see how much some stuff cost Americans that would cost us so much more!

thefinalcost

I think Emotiva ships with duties/taxes included in their final price and the XPA-3 cost me $120cdn to get it shipped thru Fedex so the UPA-7 should be about the same. Don't know how much the other websites mentioned above charge for shipping to Canada or if they even do but like John mentioned - Canuckaudiomart would be a really good place to look first.

I just checked out your picture gallery and am very impressed with your setup. I am a huge Paradigm and Yamaha fan myself

It looks like your current Yamaha AVR is putting out a good deal of power...around 140wpc rms. I'm curious as to your spending budget for the amplifiers...?

...quality amplifiers are not cheap, but deals can be found! I'm not saying anything negative about emotiva, but please be cautious of amps in those ultra low price ranges.

For example, your Yamaha 3800 is valued at around $1,500. And the most expensive " signature " emotiva amp is only $1000...

I'm not sure that this would be much of an upgrade in terms of sonic fidelity...

Get back to me with your budget and I'd love to give you some ideas...
