Thumbs down Samsung Wireless Blu-ray Players -- BEWARE!

Don't buy this if you have the audacity to have a space (or other unacceptable characters) in the name of your wireless router network. It won't recognize it and they tell you that you have to change the name of your network.

How arrogant! After waiting two months to get the optional (i.e. additional charge) wireless antenna, now I find that, to get this player to work fully, I have to change the settings on all of my computers AND all of my visitors' computers who have previously set up their devices to work in my house. In fact Samsung should take responsibility and update their software.

Buy another player. This one isn't worth it.

Yea...usually I'd say welcome but with this as your 1st posting...I'd say your not welcome...especially as an owner of a wifi samsung player.

Ok. Fair. Perhaps it was an inappropriate first post but I was angry. Went through customer service hell with Samsung. They admit they have a problem, so I'm not the only person who finds this problematic. They admit that they have reported it to their engineers and no one knows even if they're going to fix it.

All I asked of them was to either tell me that they were going to update their software sometime in the future or allow me to return the unit for a refund. Response: "Sorry. We don't give refunds."

As to the drama queen comment, I have a bunch of college kids (friends of my kids) who visit us regularly. It's simply a real hassle to help them all redo their settings when the come, with their Macs and PC's, all with different software. Samsung should fix this issue which they admit is their problem.

And don't forget, this all happened after waiting patiently for two months for the LAN adapter that they charge extra for without any indication on the box that it's not included (let alone, not available).

If you overlook my anger, I think there's a fair warning to people who think they're buying a ready-to-use, hassle-free wireless player.

CNET looks favorably upon them. Until the LG BD390 was reviewed last week Samsung occupied slots 2-5 on their list of top Blu-ray players.

I assume the OP bought the 1600. The primary complaint in the CNET review of the 1600 is that it doesn't include the (expensive) WiFi dongle which is why I would go with the 3600 were I forced to buy a new Blu-ray player.

Yes, I am a CNET disciple.

Their customer service seems to be lacking I'll admit, but issues will be fixed eventually. Unfortunately with being able to update some of these players by firmware...I don't think they are tested as well as they should. They can just 'fix' it later. I'd say your going to have small 'annoyances' with some of the new players that come out regardless of brand. Best to wait for awhile till they release a firmware update or 2 (probably much cheaper price by then also). My bd-p4600 is working great other than figuring out streaming with a mac (its not supported but one person figured it out with the 3600 in the mac forums so I'm waiting word back from them).

Sometimes - more often than not - people like to 'yell,' before looking at things calmly, rationally.

I do agree, that something sold as 'ready-to-use' (straight out of the box), should be - but, that's usually not the case, with this, or (many) other things.

I have 2 letters and 1 number for you: PS3!!! I've had 4 Samsung blu-ray players and all of them eventually had major issues. I gave up on Samsung. Sony is the way to go...

As a former Network Admin,... it sounds like it is your network that is "non-Standard",... as is the "rant" that you just did because "they" are arrogant enough to follow Industry standards.

spaces always reak havoc with alot of things computer related so you should always avoid it. Even when creating a computer name or network name with a space in it on windows it will usualyl tell you it may cause problems later down the line. Guess you forgot about that.

Be thankful you didn't have a space at the end of the name. that really creates haven't as not only does it casue problems, people don't even relaize it's there.
