Default Directors and Actors = musicians?

Sorry if the title is confusing but couldn't think of any other way to put it.

With the release of the new Dave Matthews Band album this week my fervor and passion for their music has been reignited. I was talking to my girlfriend about how it's funny how music fans will just inhale everything by their favorite artist.

It then got me thinking about my movie collection and the reasons why I buy certain movies etc.

I'm a huge Viggo Mortensen fan, living up here in the northwest an hour or two from the small town he has a ranch at I've been lucky enough to meet him several times when he comes to town, once at the Comic Book shop, the other time at a Best Buy. And the guy actually remembered me, how f-ing cool is that?

Anyway I'll buy any and every movie he is in, along with Johnny Depp, Brendan Gleason, Daniel Craig and others. Same with directors, any Gilliam, Coen Brothers, Peter Jackson movie I will buy, among others.

Am I the only one? Or are there movie fans out there besides me who treat their favorite stars like musicians?

Commence discussion....

You've confused me, Aragorn son of Arathorn, heir to the throne of Isildur Elendil.

Yeah, if someone does something exceptionally well enough times, they're going to bring you back. Unless you're teenage girl, it's going to be for the same reason, talent. I've realized that anything with Clive Owen has to be at least more than mildly entertaining. An actor is going to pick certain roles as well so it's going to become you liking the actors skills and the stories he chooses to act in. But when someone likes a movie because there's some pretty boy in it and continues to like it despite the fact it may not even be good is something else entirely...Twilight.

Sure, I do the same thing. I buy pretty much everything with Dustin Hoffman, Al Pacino (mostly, he's put out some real bad movies lately), Bill Murray(except Wild Things), and everything Meryl Streep(she is an acting genius).

Good thread. Makes more sense in the first post than your Bond thread did

Sometimes when I'm alone in my car, or even in the shower, I recite my favorite director and actor commentaries with great fervor and passion.

Yes, and no.

Generally no, because I'm pretty selective when buying movies -- only buying movies that I think are really good -- and no director or actor will is immune to making a crappy movie.

That being said, over the last few years, as a joke, I've accumulated almost every Julia Roberts movie on DVD. A) because she's awesome, B) because it was a joke among friends (they've contributed some of the movies to the collection), and C) because DVDs are cheap enough that I never paid more than $5 for any of them.

Looking through my collection of DVD's (3000+) and Blu (45) nothing springs out at me as anyone, that I must have. I will buy most Eastwood but not all.

Saying that, I will collect passionately any TV show I like.

The issue has again been proven... for me anyway.

Blind buying The International tomorrow, if it has Clive Owen in it usually warrants a purchase.

Plus just paid an ungodly fortune for Dave Matthews Band tickets for labor day weekend, 3 concerts, choice seating for 2, well over a thousand... but a price I'll gladly pay to see them perform from 15 feet away
