Has anyone else noticed this?
I have just attempted to watch the new Film4 release of Trainspotting but gave up after 40 mins or so as I noticed a recurring problem in the presentation. Every so often the picture seemed to freeze, making any movement following this appear 'jerky'. Here are a few examples: -during the opening sequence (no, not the bits that are meant to freeze!) -when Renton and Sickboy are walking across the park just before they shoot the dog -just as Dianne leaves the Volcano club. Could it be a poor transfer problem? They have crammed a lot on a single layer disc. I have a PS3 with the latest update and a 52inch Sony Bravia LCD. Could my disc be the problem? Has anyone else experienced this? Maybe it's just mine ![]() It's a real shame, I was looking forward to this release. FYI the audio is 5.1/DTS lossy only, also. Fantastic extras though. If I get the time I'll post more specific details of when the problems occur. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Matt ![]() Last edited by MattDean; 06-05-2009 at 03:51 PM. |

I know it's an old thread, but just got this on LoveFilm rental and noticed the exact same thing, and at the exact same points, especially the point at which Diane leaves the club. In case it helps, I'm running a PS3 too, through a Panasonic LCD.
Thanks for helping me realise it's not a problem with my setup, hope I've managed to do the same for you! ![]() |

Hi. Thanks for the post.
Reading the comments here that's a fair guess, but this is definitely not telecine flicker. Nor is it a 1080P/24fps judder thing, either. It happens in scenes where there's no panning at all. The scene were Diane leaves the club is a static shot with a door smallish in the frame. As the door opens and the person steps out, the movement looks like it's slowed down to 2fps, let alone 24! ![]() ![]() Anyway, hope this helps. ![]() |

Yup, I'm confused! ![]() I haven't been able to watch it all the way through because things like this bug me! I have the Collector's Ed DVD from a few years back and don't recall any such problems on that. Perhaps it is a compatibility problem if not everyone's experiencing it. However, surely with the latest firmware upgrades on the PS3 these issues shouldn't arise? Matt. |

Just finished watching via PC ROM @ 1080p. Very nice transfer both sound and image. Seen things I've not seen since seeing this in the cinema.
The thing people are talking about (let's call it the 'effect' -I don't think it's an artifact from the video processing) is present 6 or 7 times in the film. I say "film" because I don't think it's video related. It may be and maybe someone who knows much more will comment. I reckon it's just part of the actual film. Maybe they could of used a better film to strike the transfer. The director and producers will know. Either way it removes nothing from the excellent experience of watching it and I consider there to be no fault. |

Further comment:
UK: http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/movies...87&show=review http://www.avforums.com/movies/index...diareview=9740 Japan version: http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/1671...otting_jp.html http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film2/DVDRe...ng_blu-ray.htm I think we have a film which is just that: film. Rough, grainy, and rather filmic. I have no problem with that. |

No doubt it's been covered before, but i've seen that Trainspotting's going for the bargain price of £5.77 on Amazon. However,i've read a lot of negative reviews on site regarding picture 'judder' on Blu.Is it worth it?

The edge enhancement on UK disc is much more of a problem in my opinion. |

Hi,
I have the Canadian release of this and I'm pleased to advise that I can spot not a single issue like that described above. In fact it's a very solid release. Sure the prints a little scratchy in places but overall it's a superb looking transfer with an excellent level of detail. It's also 1080P AVC and has a DTS-HD MA 5.1 audio option. - If the UK release is 1080i, the symptoms described could well be some kind of weird frame rate conversion error..... |
