Default The Official Cool Technology Thread.

I don't see one anywhere, and thought this article would be a good start.

I like the thing Samsung makes to watch your DVD's in 3D. I don't really know if it works, but it comes with a set of glasses, and requires hooking your computer up to a 3D-capable TV (which a lot of newer DLP and Plasmas are, apparently).

Both of the first two things posted in this thread are pretty sweet. I'm curious about how those 3D glasses work, and how integrate-able they are with current systems. The user review on that Amazon link wasn't too helpful, but it appears that they at least work to some extent, and the reviewer's TV wasn't anything über-expensive, meaning it's poentially a pretty mainstream-capable technology right now.

The 3-D kit almost seems like a gimmick, or too good to be true.

I also didn't see a price, wth!

I have to be the minority here. I don't like either of the two technologies posted. Air writing? As if we don't have enough idiots out there now. Can you imagine a few hundred air writing chinese/japanese people walking down the street or on a bus. How is that safe? Lol. I can't even imagine driving down the road in the USA and seeing people waving their hands around like they are having a walking seizure. No thanks.

As for the 3D glasses.. they have a ways to go. Most of them a junk/gimmicky as of now. Just not fully developed. Would love some 3D stuff when it's good. I thought some parts from "Journey To The Center Of The Earth" were pretty good.

I just read about it in Popular Mechanics.

Some excerpts:

Quote:
...every new DLP rear-projection TV can play 3D, and a decent number of plasmas can as well. If you've purchased an HDTV in the past few years, there's a fair chance it can play 3D. (Chck the back for an output labeled "3D sync.")
and...

Quote:
If your TV is 3D-ready, you'll also need a PC and the Samsung SSG1000 3D conversion kit, which retails for $130.
and...

Quote:
The home 3D kit...uses what are called shutter glasses. A 3D-enabled TV refreshes its image 120 times per second, but these battery-powered glasses effectively split the image between your eyes by blacking out each lens 60 times per second. A 3D emitter (which comes with the kit) tunes this flickering, ensuring that the lenses are open at alternating times so each eye receives different images from the screen. And it happens so fast that you can't tell it's going on.

I would buy that in a heart beat. The only two issues I see are the home row keys - how people who rest on them (most touch typists) without activating them? Last would be the abrupt force now experienced by the tip of your fingers. You can test this by "play" typing on your desk or any flat, solid surface. There is a big difference in pressure. After a while I am sure it would hurt. Even me doing it for a few seconds - it doesn't feel good. Typical keyboards seem to absorb the shock preventing any issues.

I've tried the laser keyboard before. It was alright. I'll stick to my traditional keyboard or my rubber keyboard as seen in Live Free or Die Hard.

This is a really cool toy. However, they had another one that had a camera AND shot rubber pellets. I had always wanted to get that one for work.
