Default New HT setup - help a noob

G'day guys,

I'm new on here, spent alot of hours reading people's different setups.

I need some help please... Basicaly, i'm looking for an unbelievable sound from True HD etc etc.

I'm looking at purchasing a "Pioneer Elite SC-05" to start my new system off as i have been told that this is almost as good as it gets.

I have been directed to look at the "Polk" series speakers and subwoofer.

Can anyone tell me the best speakers to go with this Amp.

Money is not an issue but don't be rediculous. I already have a decent Blueray player with an average Yamaha setup, just wanting to move on and upgrade to get True HD sound.

Help greatly appreciated!

really would need a limit your willing to spend. I can suggest speakers from 2-3 hundred to 2-3 hundred thousand. judging by that receiver I am going to guess your looking for something around $2,000? polk audio is a great company, as are energy, B&W, M&K, Emotiva, etc. we will need some more information before we can help. what size room? dedicated HT or living room? do you do alot of music listening?

Thanks for the reply.

Space of the room isn't fairly large, it is my bedroom which measures about 5x5m. I currently have a LG 42inch plasma hanging with an average Yamaha Receiver & 5.1 standing speaker setup.

I am looking for a 5.1 standing speaker setup still as i cannot put speakers behind me for 7.1.

Price max $2500.

For a bedroom, the speaker setup and placement is quite good. All speakers are lined up perfectly (front 2 are next to plasma and rears and just above ear level, next to my head). Centre channel is hanging directly under the plasma.

Not really interested in music listening, just dedicated Blueray.

PS: if any speakers mentioned need cables etc, please supply info for that aswell.

I've got a few "daydreaming" setups. Consider this:

2 of these for front left and right
http://www.energy-speakers.com/na-en...-500-overview/

Center:
http://www.energy-speakers.com/na-en...c100-overview/

2 or 4 of these for surround: (5.1 or 7.1)
http://www.energy-speakers.com/na-en...r100-overview/

1 or 2 of these for the boom:
http://www.svsound.com/products-sub-cyl-pc12_nsd.cfm

$1915 + shipping with 2 surrounds and 1 sub. (5.1)

Monoprice.com for cables - $100 or less

You could also take a look at Swans:

vanns.com is running a sale currently on some of the energy speakers for 50% off. ( edit: can't get be shipped outside US )

fronts ( price per speaker, so order two )
http://www.vanns.com/shop/servlet/it...res/542484480/

center http://www.vanns.com/shop/servlet/it...5/energy-rclcr

surrounds http://www.vanns.com/shop/servlet/it...46/energy-rc10

total $1200 orginally would have been around $2500. this leaves room for the cables and a very good sub. I would recommend the svs pc12-nsd for the sub which would still leave you well under your limit

i dont know if the 6ave sale is still going, but they had the 05 fof 700$. as someone who just purchased that avr (1000$) & went with a polk set up with a similar budget i can tell you that i am very satisfied with my set up but wish i wouldve actually listened to other speakers first. i purchased the rti8s on sale & built my system around them not knowing how much i was going to actually invest. looking back i have no buyers remorse but i do stare wistfully at the monitor audios at flanners (local highend store) and wonder what might have been.

Hello;

From the shots of the room size I highly recommend you check this out...

http://www.monitoraudiousa.com/products/radius-hd

These are amazing for what they are. Monitor Audio is a top rated and quality product. They are deffinatley high end recieving such quotes as best speaker in the world at it's price range by What Hi-Fi magazine etc.

These speakers are defintley Hi-Fidelity and you won't get anything close to them at their price point for what you need.

They are specificly for a smaller room without overpowering and muddling.

Amazing resolution for TruHD sound res, plus great sonic feel for music.

Check them out.

Much appreciated guys.

Keep the comments coming, the more you post, the more i learn

I'm thinking of shopping off amazon.com

Edit:
This is what i've come up with (5.1). Please let me know if this is sufficient or if i'm doing the wrong thing.

Amp:
Pioneer Elite SC-05

Front L&R:
Polk Audio Monitor 70 3-Way Floorstanding Speaker

Rear L&R:
Polk Audio M20 - Speaker - 2-way

Centre:
Polk Audio CS20 Center Channel Speaker

Sub:
Polk Audio PSW505 12-Inch

If that's looking good, all i need is wiring? Can someone please explain the wires i will be needing to set this up, including HDMI cabling, speaker cabling and whastever else etc.

Can i ask how you where recommended to Polk speakers. With your budget i would look at different brands there is so many to choose from.

Paradigm would be my first choice but i'm sure you will get many different opinions on this form.

Originally recomended from this site and my local store.

Paradigm look awesome.. Only problem i have is buying from Australia online.

Is there a website that actually lets me buy from the US? I've tried amazon etc and im having no luck.

You can get Paradigms at your local audio shop. Go to the Paradigm website and look for the dealer locator. I believe you should be able to get Monitor 7s or Monitor 9s, a CC290, mini monitors, and something like the eD A2-300 and still fall within your budget. Your local audio shop probably has other offerings as well, definitely wouldn't hurt to give those a listen as well.

I would recommend auditioning these as well, speaking from experience. And actually in that price range you could be looking at the bronze and silver lineup as well.

Yeh guys i'm really looking for something that i can easily get my hands on (Polk).

I've had a search around locally and noone seems to stock Polk or Paradigm, only B&W and that's bloody expensive haha.

I can't buy off Polk Direct, amazon so i'm trying there Store on Ebay.

Any other sites where i can buy Polk gear?
