Default Warner's BD-Live now has downloadable content

Popped in "The Dark Knight" tonight to see if any new extra content had been added, and there's a new bonus:

Turns out Warner has added a "WB Media Manager" feature, which allows the user to download the videos to the player's hard drive (if applicable, of course) in addition to simply streaming the video. This might be an alternative created because of the constant buffering problems with the streaming.

I downloaded the three behind-the-scenes featurettes (two on the score, the other on the sounds of the BatPod) and they play without being a small window on the screen like before. They now fill it like a regular video would.

Only with the disc itself as access, just like other studio's downloadable content. I don't know about stand-alone players, but the PS3 stores the downloaded content in its BD Data Utility, under "Shared Cache Data".

You can't do anything with it on its own other than find out the file information or delete it.

Nice. I popped in XMEN 3 last night and it had a bd-live update that has the bar fight scene from XMEN Origins: Wolverine! Now that is the kinda stuff I want and expect from bd-live.

Now see, this is the type of stuff I want to see with BD-Live, forget all the games and crap, give us content!

Is there a way to get the LOTR trailer without having the Gran Torino disc?

Theoretically all you would need is any Warner title with BD-Live.

Warner's BD-Live center has a variety of content that has nothing to do with that particular title, so there's no reason to think you would need Gran Torino and only that title to access a gallery of trailers.

Don't waste your time. It's my understanding that it's not even an HD trailer, just a direct copy of the original theatrical trailer with "Coming to Blu-ray" added at the end.

The HD trailer is at the beginning of Woodstock Disc 2.

I just downloaded it today via the Dark Knight disc. You can choose standard def or hi-def so it is an HD trailer. There was no such thing as an original theatrical trailer for the entire trilogy, so I'm not sure what you mean by that. It is a trailer for the film trilogy and doesn't specify any particular BD-specific content, if that's what you mean. That being said, the trailer is cut really well, looks fantastic, and does exactly what it's supposed to do: gets me excited for the trilogy on BD!

There's also an HD trailer available for the upcoming Where the Wild Things Are, which looks amazing.

Also on the T2 Skynet edition you can download via BDLive the original making-of featurettes for that were on the Ultimate Edition DVD.

This is going to be the biggest noob question of the day -- can you download content to a stand-alone BD player? (e.g., a Sony s550?)

If the standalone is Profile 2.0 (BD-Live) compliant and has enough persistent storage (might require an SD card) for the content in question, then the answer is yes.
