Default Having a hard time with static on a certain LP

First of all it's on blue vinyl (boooo!). Looks to be mint condition. I've cleaned it a few times with discwasher d4 and even tried some gruv glide. Any other tricks I can try?

Could it just be the pressing? It's on both sides, more pronounced in some areas but it's there throughout. UGH! And replacing is not an option.

Have you checked the condition of your stylus and made sure that your tracking, anti-skate, VTA is correct?

I've had this happen on a record or two many years ago...in those cases it appeared to be bad pressings. Hopefully for you it's not.

John

PS~ It could be that a more thorough cleaning is required. Visit one of the high-end audio shops that sells TT's and ask them if they'll give it a thorough clean.

I am also not sure, but I think that I have heard that at least some colored vinyl may not be as good as black or even clear vinyl. The colored vinyl may also be a bit softer from my understanding. Also, I do not think that D4 is the best record cleaning material. There are many other cleaners that are superior including Disc Doctor and Walker Prelude (the Walker System is better, more expensive and I believe needs a Record Cleaning Machine; I have to put mine into service). Disc Doctor can be applied by hand or Record Cleaning Machine.

Let us wait for Rich Teer to make an appearance and some comment.

Rich

Have you tried a ZeroStat on it?

I have heard the same, so like Rich implied, that may be a possible concern. I also agree that we should wait for Rich'ss namesake to offer his comments.

Hmm. It is possible for a record to look clean and still suffer from lots of tics and pops. Assuming that (as John suggested) your TT, arm, and cartridge are corrcetly set up, and that the noise isn't present on the master itself, dirt in the groove or a damaged groove are two probable causes.

There's nothing you can do about damage--unless a different cartridge tracks deeper and manages to avoid it--but a really good scrubbing might get rid of some more groove crud. How are you cleaning your records? By hand, or by using a record cleaning machine?

I don't think there's anything wrong with coloured vinyl per se (I have a few: a red Bat Out of Hell 12" single and a blue Kind of Blue come to mind), although ISTR picture discs being a bit iffy (I have a few of those too). But it'd sure make for an interesting experiment!

thanks guys. everything is set up correctly and it's just this one dang record that is giving me a problem. I'll see if any shops around here can give it a good cleaning.

I do mine by hand and will try ordering some of the better cleaners mentioned. Crossing my fingers!

Check out this review on the GEM Dandy record cleaning system from 6moons audio. It retails for $150 USD. Dobyblue has this unit and has been very pleased with it. I've been delaying a purchase myself, but I really should get this now that my Nitty Gritty is gone.

Yes I am very pleased with it. I would guess that I've cleaned now over 70 records and it does an amazing job of getting gunk out of the grooves when you spend time rinsing the record.

Water pressure is far greater than anything a handcleaning/scrubbing or vacuuming can manage. In a little while when I can afford it I will probably add in an RCM and do a wash then an RCM clean for the best possible result.
