Default Amazon Sold Out of the BDP-S300

To show you the popularity of the Blu-ray format, I just bought a S300 which was delivered today and wanted to check to see if my vendor (Amazon) had a lower price set to match competition (they will adjust prices).

To my amazement, I discovered that Amazon was out of stock and their site showed shipment in 3-5 weeks! I just ordered the S300 on Saturday!

I am guessing that demand for this player is very high in light of the Blockbuster news of yesterday.

Anyone still have doubts about the superiority of HD-DVD winning the format war?

Amazon.com currently lists '5' BDP-S300's in stock.

Link below:

http://www.amazon.com/Sony-BDP-S300-...2266701&sr=8-1

This # will definitely change as the players are sold.

*EDIT*: Weird, now it all changed... Availability: Usually ships within 3 to 5 weeks. Ships from and sold by Amazon.com. I believe what I was seeing is that 'WholeSaleAV' (through Amazon) has 5 players in stock.

They don't stick you to servers so you are likely hitting one which hasn't updated the counts yet....or whose database hasn't had the counts replicated to it.

Does this player have bd-j interactive features? Some of the user comments on Amazon say that it can't play the interactive features on the POTC discs. Though I think this is probably hd-dud fanboi trolling.

I think that happens when, says, 5 people cancel their back-orders, it temporarily shows that number back in stock on the website until whatever actual stock update comes in later and corrects them all.

You know, I wouldn't go on amazon, and comment on hd-dvd players to convince people to stray away from them since I don't own one, and really don't have a true opinion on them, but why do hd-dvd fanboys do it? It's just so childish.

See the 20 year history of the video game wars

They want to justify their purchase. The 10-20% with a lot of spare cash buy more than 1, or all 3, and then deride the rest for warring because "you should just buy all of them"

The bigger problem si that most people don't realize that the library of 1 studio is more than all the games put out on game consoles last generation, of which 2/3-3/4 is kept in print at any one time. Not like with games where it's usually OOP within a year.

It's too early to make a judgement but anecdotally it appears that these puppies are selling fairly quickly after they come into stock. This goes for some of the Brick & Mortar stores also where employees or owners have posted their experience. The Amazon site said (at the time I looked at it) something like "usually ships within 3 to 5 weeks". So I'm assuming that any new orders there are, in essense, back orders. I hope Sony has huge quantities of these flowing continuously into the supply train. While this is all a good sign for Blu-ray, I hope supply and demand issues don't appear like with the PS3s last winter. That was a very frustrating time for folks in the market for a PS3.

Well, yeah. But is it high enough to catch slowing HD DVD stndalone sales in lieu of the Blockbuster announcement?
