So I went to Walmart to pick up True Blood last Tuesday, a few days before the Season2 premiere.
I have never bought a Blu at Walmart before (I by almost exclusively from AMZ), and I never will again. My second disc out of the five was missing from the package. I immediately returned to customer service to request a refund, so I could order it from AMZ. They said I am "required" to accept an exchange for another copy. Turns out, they didn't have any other copies in stock. Then I wanted my refund. The assistant manager told me they can't refund for open box items. She said they will not refund it. Than, I told her that she was breaking the law. Walmart is entering into a selling-buying agreement with me to sell me a 5-disc set of the True Blood Season 1 on Blu-ray, in exchange for my $49 or so. By only providing 4 out of 5 discs to me, they have effectively stolen part of my money, and if they did not refund it, I threatened to grab one of the policemen in the plaza outside and file a report. She then told me, the best the Walmart can do is order me a replacement copy and call me when it comes in. She told me to hold onto my defective copy and my receipt and bring them back when it comes in. I did not trust her. I told her I would call VISA and ask them to stop payment if she did not refund me the money. She told me to go ahead, because it is not Walmart's policy to refund open items. I left that night with my defective copy and my receipt, called VISA to have them stop payment, and they said they wouldn't do it, because Walmart should refund the money themselves, and I'm guessing VISA didn't want to lose their commission. So anyway, a week later, this past Tuesday, I get a call that my replacement copy has come in. I make my way to electronics at Walmart to find that they ordered me a DVD version, not Blu ray. I was furious, and they tried to pass it off as the Blu-Ray by putting a returned item sticker over the DVD insignia on the side of the box. I demanded to speak to the general manager, who wasn't around the first time I went there. He met me and told me that it is Walmart's policy not to refund opened items, and recommended I contact HBO about a replacement disc. I filed a police report that night about the whole incident. I got a call from the district manager the next day, telling me I could come to the store to receive my replacement on Blu-Ray, and that they would be crediting the full value to my CC, so I got the Blu-Ray for free essentially. Lesson learned - complain about everything when you can. |
