Default How to run speakers in a Series or Parallel

I have been asked this question many times and though it would be helpful to post a great article explaining how to properly run speakers in a different configuration safely.

This will explain the pros and cons on how to hook up speakers and what would work best for you.

or

Both very good and detailed information

Why car audio, this applies to all speakers and is very helpful for people wanting to run speakers in either a series or parallel connection. In the article it just refers to car audio but can applied in HT. This might save someone who doesn't know any better from frying the amp or receiver.

Calculating impedances of speakers in series or parallel is covered in the Impedance and Sensitivity of a Speaker thread. It has a sticky.
