Default Critic's consensus - no love for Evan Almighty!

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/evan_almighty/

Considering it cost 250 million to make and they've spent another 150+ million in advertising it.. Looks like universal is in for one HECK of a ride.. To the unemployment office.

It think it is $250 million is with promotion, but still it is by far the most expensive comedy ever made. And one of the most expensive movies, period.

What the heck were they thinking?

I wonder what this will reduce the selling price of Universal Studios down to?

Several websites say between 160 to 175 million dollars for the production budget. Still expensive for a comedy though.

Thats too much money for a movie. Sorry. Especially this movie. It looks funny, but its stupid funny. Not entertaining. Movie should have only cost 50mil max, and even that is pricey for a comedy.

I dont think we'll know exact figures, but ive seen 200+ mil for the movie alone multiple times (they had to bring in 5-6 of EACH animal because they had to find 2 that were male/female and would work ok with each other), and the CGI is mainly the flood. Thats why it cost so much. Ive seen 5 billboards for the movie today alone as well, they are throwing money in hopes people will watch it.

Universal didn't learn their lesson from Waterworld, and this time they had to throw in some Heaven's Gate?

Man ...talking about a major beating ...17% RT rating! Ratatouille is still at 100% with 8 reviews ...so far so good. Its tracking like Toy Story 2. I hear nothing but rave reviews.

I watched this movie Tuesday (advanced screening), and I really liked it I liked it more than the first actually. And I'm a Jim Carey fan But both are great movies.

Bruce Almighty was a hit with Jim Carrey but I just don't see it having the same punch. I'll just wait a week and go see Willis kick some ass in Die Hard 4.

Actually, I thought the funniest part of Bruce Almighty was the scene where Carrol was doing the news cast and Jim Carrey was making him mess up. That part made me weak. I couldn't stop laughing. Carrol is SO funny.

I don't understand Universal's thinking here. They have basically left themselves with one week before Ratatouille opens. Who decides the dates when films are released? The studios right? If Evan Almighty does not have a huge opening this weekend and word of mouth is bad this may not even cross the $100 million mark. Talk about a kick in the nuts to Universal.

After finding out this movie is only 78 minutes in length (about 72 min without credits), I can't justify paying matinee price of $8.50 or full price of $10.50 to go watch such a short movie.

This movie is a rental for me.

I do like Steve Carrell though. But this movie just doesn't hack it for me in terms of price of ticket to length of movie.

This thing was written by Steve Oedekerk, who wrote one of the funniest movies ever - Kung Pow! I nearly went to see Barnyard (which he also wrote) but decided against it. I'll probably just wait for this to come out on HBO in 2 weeks, haha.
