USA Hero, Zatoichi, Iron Monkey, Drunken Master - September 15

http://www.thehdroom.com/news/Zatoic...September/5032
All 4 From Buena Vista-Miramax.
Solid Individually or in a Box Set.
No Specs, but Hero will have a New Transfer and come with a Digital Copy. No word about the versions being used for any of these versions (theatrical or director's).

That is so cruel seeing 95% of Drunken Master 2, horribly dubbed and butchered staring me in the face ;(

Fingers crossed for a decent release of Drunken master 2, but not holding my breath...is it really that hard to include the original audio and ending?

If its Disney then Drunken Master 2 (AKA Legend of Drunken Master) and Iron Monkey are more than likely the US versions since those are the ones they have the rights to. Hero may also be the same version as the DVD, again because I doubt Disney would try to renogotiate the licensing deals.

Disney has the rights to the unbutchered Drunken Master 2, Harvey Scissorhands just had his way with it, and I doubt Disney knows the difference

Hopefully the HK release will have english subs again, now that Harvey is no longer pressuring them to keep them seperate

They already have the rights to the original versions. They just purposefully chose to recut, rescore and re-brand them as Disney films.

Zatoichi is a day one purchase for me. Takeshi Kitano is one of my favorite filmmakers and he's way too under represented here in the US.

Great news. Hell yes to Iron Monkey! Now we just need some more great martial art movies like Fist of Legend and Tai Chi Master.

Hero I believe was released in its original theatrical form, so I'll pick that one up. I'll only get Drunken Master II uncut with the original score, which will likely happen never.

Thanks for the correction. Now hopefully, they choose to use the original versions but considering that Drunken Master 2 is still called The Legend of Drunken Master, I'll wait till these hit shelves before pre-ordering.

Hero is a Day 1 purchase unless they muck it up somehow. It should look impressive on Blu-ray.

Thumbs up Hero, The Legend Of Drunken Master, Iron Monkey, and Zatoichi coming to Blu-ray!

Link

Miramax has finally decided to open their Asian films archive and announced to release Hero, Kitano's Zatoichi, Iron Monkey und Jackie Chan's moving alocoholic drama The Legend Of Drunken Master on Blu-ray Disc in the US on September 15, 2009! All four films will also be available in a "The Ultimate Force of Four" box set on the same date.
Hopefully Miramax will have better source material (or technicans) for Hero than Highlight/Constantin had so we can finally enjoy Zhang Yimou's masterpiece in an appropriate quality. And please, don't try to screw us with some crappy cut versions of Drunken Master and Iron Monkey, Miramax!

Will Sonatine be a double with Zatoichi like it was with the DVD?

I will pick up the box set since crappy versions are better than no versions at least. But Hong Kong Blu-Ray releases are starting to pick up a little so hopefully there will eventually be the proper versions and then a Japanese company for Zatoichi.
