Lightbulb Legend of Drunken Master (Drunken Master 2)

I cant find much using the search option.
How many of you own the Legend of Drunken Master on Blu?

Im just wondering, even though the BD isnt the best according to the review, I don't believe they will be re-releasing this title with better PQ. am i correct?

So is this the best we're gonna get?
if so, ill buy it, its one of my favorite martial arts film.

I'd personally wait and see if there's going to be a Hong Kong Blu-ray released in the future. So, that way, you get the full uncut version with Chinese dubbing (they didn't record it with sound) and English subs.

The transfer sucks. The print they used for the transfer sucks. You get a dub only and no bonus features for $25 or so.

As someone who loves this movie, the BD is a waste of money. So is the Police Story BD's as well, even though I'm a Jackie Chan fan.

Let's hope the HK versions are better.

Temper your expectations for any HK films more than 5ish years old. If only the Disney disc wasn't butchered it would be far and away the best example of Drunken Master 2 out there. The source elements simply aren't in great shape, didn't look very good to begin with and it's really up to the parent companies to do any restoration. The majors either don't have the source material, and they don't sell well enough to justify a major investment (for them)

So you need to go after the copyright holders in HK and pressure them to do things right so there's a good tape for everyone to use

This isn't as bad PQ wise but is much, much, much worse overall. At least those are not some tampered American bullshit cuts that only offer English dubs on top of the already pathetic edit.

That being said I still bought it to hold me over until there is hopefully a HK release. Even if it has worse PQ than this it will be better. And at the end of the day even if that PQ is as bad as the Police Story releases it will still top the DVD versions and just a case of only so much that can be done with poor source material.

Honk Kong cinema is a small market for these Blu rays especially over here. Most of the stuff made over 5 years ago will never see Blu. I have resigned myself to collecting used DVD's at very deep discount.

i bit the bullet and bought it.
not impressed though, i compared both dvd and BD, the BD is slightly clearer.

i dont regret purchasing it though, i got it at 15$ which isnt bad, plus, i guess ill just try and sell my dvd copy. not that bad.

on another note, i popped in rumble in the bronx on dvd yesterday also, watched it upscaled with my oppo, and man is it terrible. hopefully it will get some blu ray justice.

I'm confused - is it true that the boxset version (which also includes Hero, Iron Monkey, Zatoichi) has an original Cantonese audio track with English subtitles for Drunken Master 2????

No, the version included in the boxset is the same as the stand-alone version: DTS-HD MA English 5.1 only.

The US Blu-ray is also not barebones as it does include a video interview with Jackie Chan and a trailer gallery.

As for holding out hope for a better Hong Kong release...

Don't.

Warner Asia still has the rights in Hong Kong, South Korea, and Thailand. Warner Asia's version is also shorter than the US' version with the film ending immediately after the final fight.

The DVD released by Warner Asia also does not have English subtitles despite including the "original" Cantonese track. It does have a different English dub track that does not have Jackie Chan's voice. Subtitles are limited to Chinese, Korean, and Thai.

Thanks for the clarification. I got thrown off by someone's blu-ray.com user review.
