Default OSCARS to pick 10 Best Picture Nominees

http://www.variety.com/article/VR111...goryid=13&cs=1
I think it is a good Idea as typically more than 5 movies are deserving every year of at least a nom. Then again are some pictures gonna get noms that do not deserve it if it is a weak year?

They should add more categories:

Best Picture not starring George Clooney
Best Picture not directed by a previous winner
Best nudity

I think its to make everybody happy instead of everybody bashing them because there movie wasn't nominated. But you have to think that next year they'll have there 5 main movies up there and just pick 5 more out of the litter box that did good at the theater. Which means will we see Star Trek and Transformers?

Adding 5 more movies is a joke, this will only add a bunch of movies while fun too watch not truly deserving of a Best Pic nomination. Still it will give the chances to add on their BD release "Best Picture Nomination" and give an excuse to charge it $5 more since it was Oscar nominated

No way Transformers will get a nomination. Nor will Star Trek. Critical Reception will still favor heavily and neither did well enough to get the nomination. The nominations will likely expand to a broader field, and will include smaller films that were critically well received, they will not go for bang over content, that is just not the Academy. You have to belive that TDK would have been nominated though if it was like this this year.

This is a stupid idea and dilutes the value of a Best Picture nominee. Five is plenty, and most years there aren't even five worthy candidates. I don't know if they think this will raise ratings because now big movies like Dark Knight would be nominated, but it isn't necessary.

I think thats why they're doing this. And also I think Star Trek will get a nood because of it. It was critically acclaimed and people loved it. I guess ST will be this years TDK as far as best pic nods.

Not Transformers though

I'd say it should be 6 or 7 at the most

This is for ratings. This way, they can nominate blockbuster films that people have heard of or are actually interested in.

If the best critic alive has a top 10 movie list every year, the Oscars can too. This is just fine by me.

I guess we can look forward to an Oscar nomination for UP for Best Picture, and boy will I be happy, because then I won't have to see the words "Beauty and Beast is the only animated film ever nominated for Best Picture" ever again.

Why and How? This how the OSCARS use to be in in the 20s, 30s, & 40s. Yes I agree this has to do with The Dark Knight. This earses any chance of whinning of what film is nominated. Also, who says this does not help even more indie films getting a nod.

They should keep it @ 5...10 is too many movies to see @ the theatre to determine who should win.

This is awesome. There usually is about ten AWESOME oscar worthy films these days. Then a whole bunch of average ones.

Yeah, this is incredibly stupid. The only way this would make any sense is if they eliminate the Animated Feature category and allowed foreign films to compete for Best Picture.

Every year they try another hideous well-won't-try-THAT-again stunt to "modernize" or "streamline" the Oscars, or throw darts at trying to figure out how to "fix" last year's--
The good part being that it flops disastrously, they chalk it up to experience, and go back to formula on the next year's ceremony.

So, let's just get through this one as quickly as possible, and then confine it to the discard dump-bin of "Technical winners stay in their seats", "One singer for all nominated Songs", and last year's "Speeches about Actor/Actress roles instead of featured clips"....
It's a learning experience for them.

The last times there were 10 Picture nominees was because it was 1939 and 1943, and 10 wasn't enough...
That ain't what we got this year.

Yea, but in the 30's and 40's, there were a ton of quality films being made. I can't say that about movies nowadays. Don't get me wrong, I still think that there are great films being made, but 10 Oscar noms is too much for me. 5 is plenty.
