Default new to this.....soo i can use the advice

first of all, this is my first post. i currently own a 32" samsung 720p and i just bought a samsung p1600 blu ray player. now, im somewhat in the market for some speakers.

im not looking for anything crazy, just something that will make the sound a bit better in my room. keep in mind, this set up will be in my bedroom, not living room.

at first, i was considering the bose cinemate system ($500) but somehow, i stumbled upon the logitech z-5450 system. according to what i researched, it seems to get positive feedback. the two wireless speakers attracts me the most.

sooo my question is, what other options do i have? i would like to keep the budget around $300

Do you already have a receiver?

$300 for speakers and receiver will aim you towards HTiB- maybe a nice Onkyo HTiB. I'll look for some links

Heck, that's how I started, then upgraded all of it slowly.

THIS is probably your best bet for $300. For a bedroom this should do the trick.

Shop around, I know your budget is tight but you may find once you start doing research on audio systems your head will spin.

I had a set of Logitech z5500 pc speakers which I thought were excellent pc speakers. However, for $300 on the z-5450 I think you should reconsider the $500 you were originally going to spend on the Bose system and go this route:

Receiver ($299): Pioneer VSX-819H-K
5.1 Speakers ($209): Polk Audio RM6750

The z-5450 also won't do HD audio.

Here's an even better idea. You can get THIS receiver for just $199 and THESE speakers for $199. For just $400 shipped you will have a nice sounding setup. Since your Blu-ray player decodes all of the HD audio codecs this receiver is perfect since it will accept PCM which is what your player will output. For just $100 over your budget it is well worth it.

Good find! Only thing though is the 519V-K only does PCM over HDMI, which means the HD audio decoders have to be in the player. I'm not sure the BD 1600 decodes the HD codecs.

The BD-1600 does decode unlike the BD-1500 that I used to have which is why I suggested that receiver. I think for a total of $400 one would be hard pressed to find a better setup.

On a side note...man you have some beautiful speakers!

Cool! Sounds like this would be a great compromise then given his budget. Thanks also for the kind words on my speakers.

And to the OP, I used to own the RM6750 speakers and used them in my office setup. I was much happier with them over my Logitech. They're very good speakers given their price.

I wouldn't recommend the Z-5450 even tho it has wireless rear speakers, they don't perform very well and the they lag between the sending signal to the rear speakers. If you looking for logitech speaker I would recommend the Z-5500 or Z-680 (if you can find them they are very cheap and sound awesome.) For me I currently running the Z-680 for bed room.

neither the bd-1600 or the bd-1500 decode the audio. . . trust me. . . the only defference is the streaming. . . trust me I sell them. . . but that's beside the point. I would suggest one of the new yamaha receivers, probably the 465 for your budget and a small set of speakers, definitive technology 60.6. . . .

I had the BD-1500 and it decoded True HD, but not the DTS Master Audio. The BD-1600 does both and you can look HERE on Samsung's website where it clearly shows that it can decode both.

neither decode the formats, the way it works is that the player outputs the formats to the receiver through HDMI. At that point the receiver then decodes the new audio format. That is why it is so important to get a receiver that decodes both of the formats. The only other option is that if you have an older receiver then you could get the samsung 3600 which decodes the audio inside the player and outputs it straight to the receiver through a multi channel analog output. I'm not sure why your 1500 wasn't doing the DTS HD. Personally I have had a lot of problems with the Samsung players. My store has had about 6 break on display and the 1600 has only been out for a short while. I usually suggest the Sony 360 for someone who has a newer receiver with the decoding ability and the pioneer elite for someone who has an older receiver that decodes the audio formats in the player. . .

I would suggest you look at what you can save each month and then save to bump up your budget some. $600-1K will get you a really nice starter setup.

Me too. I travel next week for work, but after that I am hoping to finally get them. If the local HT store does not have two with sequential S/N's in stock, they will order them directly from B&W UK, which will take about 3 weeks.

I'm quite stoked about them.
