Thanks for the heads up. This is a must buy for me. It's been a tradition for many years that we watch this on Christmas Eve. It will be nice to have it in Blu.

FANTASTIC! This is a movie I have seen more than any other and it still gets to me each and every time! I still have my (almost worn out) VHS copy and the DVD.

This movie is really dear to me!

Excellent film, and a definite buy for me.

A little worried about the quality though -- their most recent release of it had a real "patched-together from very different sources" look.

Also, on DVD, the 16x9 version is just a badly cropped print of the usual 4x3 print.

Still, put me down to buy it.

i have the older blu release and well yes it could look beter. Wil not even consider doble dipping unless the PQ is way way better than the one I have already.
This is their one hit, reminds me of what Funimation is doing with their treasure Dragonball.

I think considering the age of the film and how it was probably kept after all these years, I think it looks pretty amazing. It does come across looking very film-like at times, but the encode was apparently done in a rather sloppy manner. Digital noise for grain... easily could have been taken care of in the right hands. The missing frames issue is the biggest offender on the original release though... let's hope that gets fixed.

Default Re Dropped Video Frames w/o Audio Evidence

In the review of A Christmas Carol (Alastair Sim) it was mentioned that there appeared to be frame drops with no corresponding audio anomalies. I would like to point out that if the frames were missing from the original film media, and that film included the audio track on the film itself, the skip in audio would not happen at the same moment as the dropped frame. I believe film projection equipment read the audio track considerably offset from the corresponding frame being projected.

It is also possible that the original film source was separate from the audio source and that errors in one did not impact the other. The fix might have been a relatively simple re-syncing process that was done with the digital transfer process.

I think this might have been the case...did you watch the commentary? The audio is completely off sync during almost the entire commentary track.

This is the one you should by. It's Region A, anyway, don't know about other regions.

Thanks for the info. I'm in the US so Region A is where I am anyway. Think I'll be ordering it.

I love the movie, but after seeing the review, I'm not sure if it's worth it.
I hate crappy audio.

Just picked up this classic at B&N for $9.91 after my 10% B&M discount and the 25% of coupon! Was on sale for 13.99 before all discounts were applied.

When you see how superior the video quality is to all the previous DVD versions, you'll think it's well worth it. By the way, the audio isn't that bad, in fact, it's quite acceptable.
