Default Panasonic V10 or Pioneer 5020

So I purchased the Panasonic 50" S1 a couple of weeks ago and ended up bringing it back as I just wasn't happy with it. Not that I didn't like the tv, but as soon as I got it home I immediately started to regret not spending a little more and purchasing something a bit better. So rather than keep a tv I would have regretted, I brought it back and I'm starting my search over.

Right now I'm looking at the Panasonic 50" V10, or I could spend a little more and get the Pioneer 5020.

Just hoping to get some initial reactions here. I know the Pioneer fans are pretty diehard, but hoping they can give an objective opinion. I'm not even really sure what the differences are between the elite and nonelite models?

Thoughts?

there are a lot of Pioneer enthusiasts here, and I must admit the blacks are much inkier in comparison with the V10, but IMO, after seeing the Panny in action, there is no substitute. Personally, that V10 would be my choice. But you should compare them and judge with your own eyes. There is no better way to reach a final decision than that.

I'd love to compare them "in action" but the store where i found the Pioneer wouldn't accomodate my request. They don't have one on display for some reason and refuse to take one out of the box unless it's a guaranteed sale.

The V10 on the other hand was hooked up to a Panasonic Blu-Ray player and it looked fantastic. I'm just not totally in love with the stylings of the Panny.

Decisions decisions....

Also consider Samsung b650 offer color accuracy as equal as pionner. And cost much less.

I know this would be a pain in the ass to do...but...why dont you get the 5020 and see if you like it..and then return/exchange it for the V10..or you could do vice versa but seeing as Kuros are going out and will soon be outta reach I'd suggest trying out the Kuro first before you lose that chance. Now this [my opinion] is based on the fact that they wont let you compare both products side by side. And in all honesty I cant see any other option available other than just going for the V10 or the Kuro and just being content with one or the other. In the end no matter what anyone sez it's ur call.

I know Pioneer isn't disappearing completely, but considering they're getting out of the plasma business and considering the 5020 is not just more expensive but also the older model I'd go with the Panasonic.

Talking Panny all the way!

Go for the Panny. I was going to get the Pioneer 5020 but decided to wait for the reviews of the V10. I am now convinced in getting the V10. I even talked my boss into the V10 and he loves it.

We all know the black levels are better on the Kuro. That's been established. My question is, besides that does the Kuro really have ANYTHING else over the V10? Doesn't the V10 outperform the Kuro in other areas like...

1.) Video processing (true 1:1 1080p right? The Kuro doesn't do this does it?)

2.) Better color accuracy (V10 has more calibration options to dial in color)

3.) Less energy consumption

4.) Thinner design

Anything else anyone can think of?

Sounds about right...it might be wise to point out that the 5020 gets an overall rating of 8.0 whereas the V10 gets 8.7 on cnet's reviews.

That says a lot for the Pioneer. They are confident that they can sell it without taking it out of the box.

I hope my Pioneer/Elite PRO-110FD lasts a long time, because that is the only brand I want to own.

My old plasma was a panasonic. I was upset that it didn't do 24fps... and the 8xx generation to follow had problems with it. Samsung does it very well! Plus very nice contrast on the 50B850... nicer than the PZ750 I had. I use the optical out from the samsung to go to my receiver. The TV also has an ethernet jack for internet TV... USB jacks n stuff... lots of features I haven't explored yet.

V10s are still a far cry from Kuro Elites! From what I hear from the experts it will still be a few years before Panny gets to where the Elite Pios are at. For a fact its def not happening this year but who knows about 2010! I think you will be quite pleased once the 151 is on your TV stand!

No, it scores 900/1080 for motion resolution same as the Elite's, the Panny scores 1080/1080.
