Default Shopping/researching BDs at Amazon

Here is a recent e-mail exchange I had with Amazon. What do you think about this?

If you agree with me, write to Amazon!

>>>

In regards to the reply from Amazon on my question about separating DVD and Blu-ray (BD) customer reviews:

Amazon said: "Just so you know, different versions of a title are often linked in our system so customers can easily find the version they're looking for. In such cases, the same reviews appear on the product detail pages for all versions."

I don't see how having reviews for different formats on a product page helps a customer find the format they are looking for. The format is clearly established at the head of each product page. Having reviews for different formats actually causes confusion since we are looking for reviews (at the foot of the product page) of a specific format.

Amazon said: "Such content sharing allows us to provide all review information possible, regardless of the edition. This includes both editorial reviews and customer reviews. Also, we encourage our customers to review all aspects of the product including content and quality."

We don't want "all review information possible" in this case - we specifically don't want reviews of DVDs on BDs. We only want reviews of BDs on BD product pages because they are different from the DVD versions. The "aspects of the product including content and quality" are usually different between DVD and BD versions so it only makes sense to keep the reviews of each version separate.

Amazon, please change the product pages of DVDs and BDs so that they only have reviews for the specific version being researched because each version is a different product with different content and quality.

Absolutely. I hate seeing them mixed together. I remember seeing VHS reviews for Blade Runner before.

I agree, the DVD and BD reviews should be separated.

I especially hate when you get reviews for an "ultimate Edition' on a 'Director's Cut Edition' or something crazy like that.

I also think it is crazy to mix the VHS/DVD/BD/HD-DVD reviews together.

Default Write to Amazon

Now that I'm paying attention to this I've noticed some discussions on Amazon where people are complaining about the same DVD vs. BD review problem. I personally think that writing directly to Amazon is more effective but I'm glad to see more discussions.

Does not matter to me since reviews on Amazon are worthless for me. You got members going around giving 1 rating to everything, others giving low ratings cause they did not like the packaging or the colors....you get the idea. If I want something I woun't be using Amazon reviews to make a decision, I will research things before hand and then decide what I should do.

Default Amazon isn't identifying BDs correctly

Have you noticed that Amazon isn't identifying Blu-ray discs correctly, either? They are listed like this (in a wish list for example):

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly [Blu-ray] DVD

Where the title is in blue and the "DVD" is in black, signifying that is the format. They should be listed like this:

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly BD

Where the title is in blue and the "BD" (or "Blu-ray") is in black. This is how DVDs are listed.

And by the way, BDs are not DVDs, they are two different formats that happen to be the same size and shape. That doesn't mean that both are called "DVD".

There should be a filter to allow separation of multiple editions.

The whole "Blu-ray Dvd" thing needs to go. It's very misleading. They need to have a section for Blu-ray and a section for Dvd. And separate reviews for each of those formats. I was in Best Buy not too long ago and a guy came up to me and asked it I had a Blu-ray Dvd player lol. I corrected him but I doubt it will stick. Misinformed public needs to be made aware lol.

IMO it's kind of ridiculous having DVD reviews show up when you're trying to read reviews for a blu-ray, and vice versa. The review should be limited specifically to the format it's written for.

I dont care. I dont need the review to tell me wether Im gonna like the movie or not and I dont need a review of the Picture quality because I know the BD is gonna look better than the SD.

YES! It's so annoying seeing a review for a 8 year old dvd from a Blu-ray link.

Post BAND OF BROTHERS reviews on Amazon

Since Amazon has BAND OF BROTHERS back in stock I looked through the reviews and didn't see one that was for the DVD set! They were all for the BD set. Wondering if Amazon had actually listened to us and made a change in displaying reviews, I looked at the CASINO ROYALE reviews and found nothing but reviews for the DVD set and a few for the initial BD; I saw no helpful reviews for the two disc CASINO ROYALE set.

Perhaps the "clean" reviews for BAND OF BROTHERS suggests a change is coming, though. We can hope. Or just stick with www.blu-ray.com.
