Hi everyone!
I would like to talk about white spots that run throughout some films. For example I have Batman BD and Grimm Brothers BD that includes too many of white spots. Maybe because these movies are dark, its easier to notise but... I´d rather would like to watch failures of original master than these stupid spots of high def blu-ray disc. 30 euros is way too much of disc than includes so much white "digital dirt". After I purchased Batman and realized spots, I desided not to buy any blu-ray before it cost under ten euros. Unfortunately after few months I had forgot what I promised to myself and purhchased couple of more blu-rays includin great Grimm Brothers. And again same disappointment same white spots. I think It´s too expensive to buy these movies if quality is not perfect. Is this white spot phenominon already solved, or what? ![]() |

... in the feedback forum?
Anyway, I believe what you're talking about is dirt and speckles on the print. This can occur if it wasn't properly cleaned/mastered/remastered to get rid of such things. You're going to see it on some older films unless someone does a lot of work. For some production companies, the cost/benefit ratio doesn't pan out so it stays where it is. I don't recall it being on any version of Batman, though I think I do remember it on the Brothers Grimm. |

I think what you are referring to is grain ... there are PLENTY of topics on here speaking of grain so if you do a search you can probably get a better answer to this than I can give. As there are tons of information on this aspect.
You cant just type "Grain" in the search tho... so be a little more specific. "Why is there grain?" That may pull you some good results. In any case, if the grain bothers you to the point of not buying BDs until the price is lowered perhaps checking out some Blu-ray Reviews on this site first. They are top notch and the video quality section and rating should give you better insight on which discs you would like to buy! (They'll usually tell you if there is alot of grain, plus many 5 star ratings are great transfers) And with only another click you can have your BD shipped to ya with amazon! (Since you can buy from the review page.) This way your 30 Euros will be well spent ![]() Hope this helps. |

Honestly, I don't think he's talking about grain- he's talking about anomalies in the print- speckles and dirt that come up as "white spots" in the transfer. Most newer titles are not going to see that at all. Older titles or ones that haven't been preserved/remastered properly will see it. However, older titles like The Godfather or 2001 don't have it at all because they've been extensively repaired.
I would recommend that any "non new release" title you hold off on until there is a review, as most will mention dirt in the print. |

Maybe I believe what aramis 109 say, because I´m not talkin about grain. Grain is fine for me.
This phenominon I´m talkin about is, that it looks like some movies "pixels are lost" and there´s white hole instead of picture. ![]() I wonder am I the only person that has notised these white dots. Think: dark blue sky, then suddenly very bright white dot appears and last for one frame and then disappear. For sure it doesnt exist in original master tape, because it is hole, not "white dirt", it´s a digital HOLE. My TV and cables are fine, so this is not TV issue! A bit late on this one, but amazed this hasn't attracted regular posts.
I have this problem and it is definitely NOT film grain as I'm well aware what grain looks like. This is specks of very bright white light and is obviously digital. I have the problem on Matrix, The Descent and others and it is seriously annoying and distracting. I've tried it on a TV and projector, tried switching HDMI cables, even used component and the marks still show on the same points in the discs. I'm thinking it is either the disc itself or the blu ray player. Descent was supposedly a great transfer, so I'm surprised if this try of problem slipped through unnoticed, unless the UK/Europe version is different. |
