I love this film, but I doubt it'll look that good on Blu.

It will look better than any other home video release, which is good enough for most.

The Canadian blu-ray release looked gorgeous, so I don't see why this would be any different. Here's a review of the Canadian version:

I have the Canadian disc, and the transfer is quite nice. Very happy to have it. No extras on the disc however, so hopefully the upcoming releases will have some if not all previous features.
