Default Pink Floyd's "PULSE"......

I love this concert and have played the SD DVDs many, many times. It is often mentioned here as a wanted title. But, would there be a significant improvement if it were on Blu? It was originally recorded on tape, not film. Also, it already has PCM audio. Would DTS-MA make much of a difference?

It only has PCM audio on the laserdisc. The 2-channel mix on the DVD is 448k Dolby Digital if memory serves. You may be confusing it with The Wall which does have a PCM track. However, Pulse does have one of the very few non-standard Dolby Digital 640k 5.1 tracks on DVD. It also has a 448k 5.1 track for maximum compatibility.

As to whether or not it would be an improvement, technically yes, it could be greatly improved, but will never be high definition. The best they could do would be standard 480i, but compressed with AVC at higher-than-DVD bitrates. That could give us a picture quality indistinguishable from the video master. And, since all currently available audio tracks on DVD are lossy, the sound could get a great boost as well.

I desperately want the Wall and Live at Pompeii. It is such a unique concert, especially because they performed many songs that were rarely performed again (at least on videotape).

The best Floyd material I have seen and one of the best concerts overall is Roger Waters "In the Flesh Live". It was filmed with a high definition camera in 2001 (?) and would be a great blu-ray release. I also enjoyed "Delicate Sound of Thunder" more than Pulse, but I only have the VHS tape, not sure if it was ever released on DVD.

No it never did at least not in the US! I loved the begining of Run Like Hell on DSoT much better then that on Pulse! It would be so cool to have that in HD and uncompressed 5.1!

Yes! the Roger Waters Dvd is great, I saw one of his shows back in 00' It was awesome , I much prefer Roger Waters over David Gilmore but that is just my opinion , I really hope they put the RW show on Bluray.

Well if no one can wait for PF to show up, try out the David Gilmore blu to see you through. Pulse was a great concert, ( saw it 5 times in London). But like all of you, these concerts would be great, plus I would like the see the film version of the Wall.

I could be wrong on this, but PULSE was shot on video in 4:3 AR. So I really doubt how much better the PQ could get in the first place. Also, the 2006 dvd version offers a new 5.1 Dolby Surround mix.

Intersting. I tried the Sony SL-350 and it played all the SD-DVDs iI could throw at it, inlcuding Pulse. But it was sooooo slow to load, dumb CEC menu, etc. so I got the Samsung BD-P2500. Much better overall but Pulse won't play the Main section ( typical user menus but screen goes black upon selecting Play).

Considering they are not going to appear in concert again, I'd be happy to close my eyes and listen to what I saw live a few times but I think the wifey wants to see the vid along with it (no sense of imagination)
