Default DMP-BD60 - Picture in Picture Audio

Just to get this right, in order to hear the picture in picture audio, i have to set BD-Video Audio to 'on' rather than 'off', but in the process of doing that, you would lose the DTS HD MA part of a signal, and the Dolby True HD.

am I correct? Thanks!

I believe it is the 'Secondary Audio' track that needs to be set to ON to hear the audio on PiP content. And YES you are correct that you will lose dts-HD MA or TrueHD tracks. This is true whether you are bitstreaming or internally decoding. The whole point is that doing in player decoding should get around this, but it does not due to the fact that none of the current players have the horsepower to mix lossless tracks with lossy secondary audio. Currently it is assumed that the PS3 is the only BD player that can mix lossy secondary audio with lossless. Hopefully someday all standalones will have the ability when internally decoding. I am not sure about doing this while bitstreaming since the tracks would have to be decoded, mixed and re-encoded. I can imagine this would be even more intensive for the processors on the players.

The ability to mix is the key reason why you should have the full lossless decoder in the player.

The current implementation on the Panasonics is less than ideal. If they currently don't have ability to do this while internally decoding, then it would be nice if they just did this behind the scenes as far as turning the secondary audio ON and OFF when actually utilizing those features. You would not think it would be that hard when both dts and Dolby have lossy legacy tracks associated directly with their lossless counterparts.

I got to say it is really stupid, i mean, if you havnt turned it on in the setup before you put the movie in, you have to re-load the whole disc again.
