Default TARGET to start competitive price matching this Sunday..

they told us in our morning huddle today about this. As some of us knew, they were testing this in a few regions, and it worked well for us.

It was supposed to roll-out chainwide in a couple months for the holidays, but they accidently printed in our flier next week that it is now in effect. I have not seen the ad myself yet. I believe all price adjustments will have to be made at the service desk though, not at point-of-sale (atleast for now).

Since it's only in certain regions, could you tell us what region your store is in?

I think he's saying it's nationwide now. It was supposed to go nationwide before Christmas, but I guess they started early.

My question though, is what is new? Did Target not match prices before? I'm not a big Target shopper, so I don't know their old policy.

Nope. They stopped doing price match about 5 years ago (right before I started working there)

yes, it is nationwide.

So you would have to purchase it first and then go over to customer service for them to do the price match...kinda a pointless price matching at Target when you can do a price match at BB and get it done in one transaction

I think he means you grab your movie and take it to the service desk, where you can get the price match and then pay for the movie right there, just like at best buy.

It's about time they started doing what the other major chains have always done.

Yeah, but BB does the price match right there at the register.

Target is worth a walk-in now and again, every once and a while they have sweet prices. Recently got "Blow" and "Corpse Bride" for $12.99 each or was it $11.99 each? Forgot.

Yeah, now they can try to deny price matches like all the other stores.

Well I got our info sheet today about it.

As always ... won't match ANY online prices. Not even our own site.
You have to have the full ad, not just a page.
No printouts or anything, it has to be the ad in hand.
Won't match free gift cards/buy x-amount get x-free deals.

SO basically the same as everyone else's.

There was a similar thread a week or 2 back, and I posted something like this..

I'll go there one day and ask about price matching, and the cashier will be like, well we never heard such thing.

Generally this is true, however I've gotten Best Buy to match Amazon on a few occasions. I was in my local BB a couple of months ago just browsing their remotes when I noticed the Harmony One was on sale for $199 (normally $249). I decided to check Amazon's price on my phone which came up $177.99. Just then the associate happened to walk up and ask me if I needed any help. I asked if there was any way he could match Amazon and showed him the price on my phone. He went to the puter to check if it was doable, then came back and said yes. I was completely surprised by that and he didn't even call management for approval. I didn't hesitate and bought the Harmony on the spot.

Well, i think that's another one of those infamous BB variables. I've had it go both ways at the same location, so now i just go to the customer service desk first. No need to wait in line at the register, then have the cashier gawk at me for 5 minutes, just so she can tell me to go to customer service anyways. If your location is going by the book, they have to actually call the store in question and verify that target, walmart, frys, etc. actually have a copy available to buy on the shelf, and in order to do all that they usually want you at the customer service desk.

Same thing happened to me when I bought my Sony SXRD. I went to Best Buy to actually see the 50" in person. They had it marked @ $2399, but Amazon was $1899. Salesman approached me and I showed him on one of their demo PC's and he agreed to take it to $1849 ("to help absorb some of the tax," he said). I was stoked. Had it delivered the next day.

As for Target, I haven't attempted to utilize their new price-match policy, but I remember it being a nightmare before. Hell, even if you bought something on Target.com, if you returned it to the store and the in-store price was less than online, they would refund you the lower amount, which feels so effing fraudulent to me, because they wouldn't do that in reverse (if the item was more in-store, you didn't get MORE money back). Probably had a lot of complaints, and not a few threats of legal action, which is why they streamlined their policy.

As long as you had a receipt (printed out of course), you should have got what you paid back.... I used to work service desk, and we never gave a lower amount back unless it was returned without a receipt.

I had the same thing happen with my TV. I knew what I wanted, but I stopped into BB to look before ordering from Amazon. I was there maybe 10 min. when the associate pulled a car salesman lilne, "what can I do that'll get you to take that home today." Not having a printed ad with me since I wasn't intending to buy, I half-jokingly replied, "Can you price match Amazon at $1899?" (their price was $2499). He checked cost and I don't know if he even checked Amazon's price because in less than a minute he said ok. It was in stock and I had driven my truck so I took it home that day.

We did have a receipt, and that was the point I argued to customer service. We bought some baby gates on Target.com for $89 each. The store had them on sale for $79 and refused to give me $89 when I returned them, saying I could only get that if I returned them to Target.com, which I eventually did.

I wrote a letter to the corporate office and got my return shipping charges refunded about 2 months later, with a letter that was less of an apology and more of a "here is our policy again, in case you forgot" response.

Granted, it could have been an isolated incident or just poor training on the part of the employees I dealt with. But I don't use "Target" and "stellar customer service" in the same sentence anymore. (Oh crap.)

I got my Schwinn beach cruiser there last year. just over a month later the price dropped by $34 and they wouldn't do a price adjustment or honor their 90-day return policy, claiming that it's only 30 days for bikes. It was winter and rainy and I hadn't used it once, the tags and paper wheel cut-out thingy were still on it and nowhere did it say that bikes have a 30-day return policy instead of 90! *growls at Target*
