Default HBO fans: Opinions on "Hung"

I have been following this show after True Blood the past couple weeks and so far I am not impressed at all. The first episode was completely lackluster for me and last nights wasn't much better. What does everyone else think? Will it swim?

Let me guess: he goes around singing, "She bang, she bang - she move, she move..." - seriously, I think it's okay, not great so far, but it's early. It's getting good reviews for those who have seen more than just the 1st 2 episodes, but we'll see. HBO usually does pretty good with these off-beat shows.

I caught the first episode and was interested...I haven't seen the second one yet, so I'll hold my judgment until after I see it.

Funny but I'm waiting for it to really take off. It doesn't have that instant awesomeness feel that True Blood did.

I watched some of the first episode but wasn't impressed. If the show gets picked up for another season and gets good word of mouth I might rent it. The state of HBO's programming has really gone down over the last few years. True Blood is decent and I don't hate Big Love but other than that they don't have any good dramas. Entourage has gone down in quality a lot over the last couple seasons. Showtime may have finally overtaken HBO in original programming. Dexter is the best show on paid TV in my opinion.

Second best, I think Mad Men is better.

I meant channels you have to pay extra for (HBO, Starz, Showtime, Cinemax). I actually just started watching season 1 of Mad Men on Blu-ray and have ordered season 2. Too much good word of mouth to ignore.

We should be bringing the Mad Men thread up again soon since the series restarts in August.

I'm giving Hung a chance because of the lead and maybe given a few more episodes it could really shine.

Curb your Enthusiasm, True Blood, and Big Love make HBO still worth having though. I don't necessarily feel their quality has gone down; it's just that their huge horses like The Wire and The Sopranos have ended and they haven't gotten another monster like that going yet, although Scorsese's new series will probably take that title. On the other hand the only mind blowing shows I feel showtime has are Weeds and Dexter.

Forgot about Curb Your Enthusiasm (probably because of the huge break between some seasons). Also didn't mention Flight of the Concords, which has a bit of a cult following.

Like you said, HBO hasn't had a monster hit since Sopranos, Six Feet Under, and Sex and the City ended. It doesn't seem like The Wire got the respect it deserved until it ended. I never watched it when it was broadcast but got the DVDs and realized how amazing it was. It seems like HBO has had more flops over the last couple years than hits, with Tell Me You Love Me, John from Cincinnati, and Lucky Louie not getting second seasons.

yeah other then entourage and eastbound and down (great show lol) I really don't watch to many of there shows. As for hung it seems like it might get better but if it keeps taking 3 episodes to go anywhere people (probably myself included) will give up on it.

Guy has big dick. Uses big dick to make money.
Seems like a theme similar to Weeds and that meth cooking show on A&E. Good person does bad things, but it's okay because they're good people with good intentions. I'm not into it.

Couldnt you be a bit more descriptive, I mean, I could barely understand because you were so vague.

OK then....sounds quirky as hell.

So far it is ok...

I will watch it and give it a fair chance like I do with other HBO... the only HBO that I really didn't like was Curb Your Enthusiasm... everything else is solid.

They need to move it to 10:30(or later if it makes it!!) so that Entourage can be shown at 10. That was the longest half hour after TruBlood last night(waiting for Entourage).

So far its "meh", but I'll keep trying. I know its probably supposed to be funny that his are so different than mom and dad, but it feels very forced. And the ex-wife is really starting to annoy me.

The biggest problem is that I just don't care about the characters.
