Samsung BD-P3600/4600 Connecting Wireless To Macintosh

For those having problems getting the Player to see shared files from your Macintosh wirelessly, this works.....

Macintosh Part-----
1- In System Preferences>>Network>>YOUR ACTIVE CONNECTION>>Advanced>>Appletalk, place a check on "Make Appletalk Active"
2- Make sure your network settings are correct...simplest way is after setting them..test...then test if your mac is seen....if all is ok, just to be sure shut down the samsung.
3- On the Mac, open System Preferences >> Sharing
4- Select "Filesharing" from the list on the left
5- Add "Shared Folders" to the Shared folders list *** I have multiple HD's, so I just added the HD(s) I wanted to the list
6- AND THIS IS THE MISSING LINK....click on "Options" under the Users list and SELECT "Share files and folders using AFP" and "Share files and folders using SMB" and PUT A CHECK on "on" next to your account

Samsung Part------
7- Turn on the Samsung AND WAIT a few seconds (so that a wireless connection is established)
8- Press the left arrow until you see the RED A at the bottom of the screen to Perform a Network Search
9- Press the RED A on your remote and then select MANUAL
10- Enter the i.p. of the Mac, then press the BLUE button on the remote
11- Enter the name of the shared folder (EXAMPLE: One of my HD's is named 500 Gig (1) so this is what I put EXACTLY as is..spaces, caps etc), then press the BLUE button on the remote
12- Enter your user name (used on the Mac...if you are not 100% sure on how it's typed, open system preferences>>accounts and find it there) and press the BLUE button on the remote
13- Enter your Macs account password exactly as you would on your mac, then press the BLUE button on the remote.

Note: Pre firmware 2.04 (?), everytime you close the Samsung, you will need to renter all the info in the player the next time you want to use the wireless features...Firmware 2.05 and above should keep the info...need only connect (Red "A") and click through with the BLUE button (Blue "D").
I and some others have written Samsung asking to remedy this...I suggest others do the same....

I tried this and it works, just like you said.

My only bummer - the videos I wanted to watch on my tv are .m4v files in iTunes. One step at a time, eh?

Yeah really. I did write to them asking them to update their Macintosh support.

It would also be awesome if there was some way that it could recognize and play m4v files, but that's probably proprietary and they'd have to enter into an agreement with Apple to use iTunes formats.

But you know what? iTunes is pretty much ubiquitous - almost everyone has iTunes, and Samsung would be way ahead of the game if their blu ray players supported it.

Funny...I wrote them about bothe in 2 seperate emails (link above),,here what I wrote concerning iTunes...lol...Could have been cleaner/longer, but the point is made

Feature request
To whom it may concern...
This is more of a feature request. I understand that it may not be possible, but I believe it would be very beneficial for all (especially Samsung), to have, in a future firmware release, the BD-P3600/4600 be recognized in iTunes, so as to be able to stream to the Samsung player. iTunes has the ability to wirelessly 'stream' to recognized speakers/systems using apple airexpress.

I got a response from Samsung:

The Blu-ray player was only designed to stream files from a shared folder using the Window XP or Vista operating systems. Samsung does not have any plans to release firmware which will make it compatible with other operating systems at this time. Future models may include Macintosh versions of the PC
streaming feature but currently this is only available for PC.

I didn't copy the rest, because the respondent didn't completely edit the template.

Maybe we can look at LG or one of the other manufacturers to see if there are any plans for Mac support. I'm not sure anyone else even has this capability, and to be honest, I didn't know it could do this when I bought it. I can live without it, but it still pisses me off.

I'm doing everything as written in your instructions, but getting the "Incorrect user or password" message. The only thing I'm doing differently is Appletalk, since it's no longer part of Mac OSX since snow leopard. Could one of you check that this method still works under snow leopard? If so, did any of you run into this problem before getting the connection to work?

I'd pm tigger on that as I upgraded my samsung player to pioneer elite 23fd (I have a thing with matching my av stuff). Be interesting to know if this works for snow leopard as I have it myself and might pick up a samsung again in the future.

I do NOT have snow leopard....yet.
So I can not say what's wrong....something to check/try...get info on the drive/folder you want to share and make sure "share" is checked (if this is still the way it is in snow leopard)...make sure that the username / password is 100% the same as on the user account (spaces, symbols etc)...

Like I said...untill I get snow leopard...I can't help that much...

I don't use airport myself, I use a dlink wireless, but concept should be the same...
If you want to be 100 % sure of the ip address, open preferences on your mac...then network...select the active connection ...click configure....then tcp/ip ...you are probably set on "Using DHCP" (I myself have it set manually and entered what I want as an ip)..
****the first set of numbers will be the IP of the COMPUTER (the one needed to connect to it from the blue ray)...

Eyeconnect 1.6 will stream itunes to BD390 and should work with the Samsung. It is $50, but has a 30 day free trial. Can anyone verify if it works with BD-3600 or BD 4600???

IF this streams through iTunes (like airexpress), then WOW...exactly what I'm looking for....

I've been searching the forums to find some info on this, and this thread seems closest.
I've got my BD-P3600 connected to my Mac over wireless. I'm runningSnow Leopard, and I've finally managed to get a successful connection. I can see and play AVI movies from the shared folder on the Mac with no problem at all. However, I can not play MP3s. I can see them - the BDP finds them in the folder and even lets me add them to the playlist - but it will not play them!
I've tried playing them on my PC, connecting to the same shared folder on the Mac (also over wireless), and that works fine, so I'm sure there's nothing wrong with the files or the network. Does anyone have any ideas why the BDP refuses to play them? Thanks.

make sure the extension is not hidden....
also, that the folder that they are in is shared ( i usually put whatever the 3600 will use on a seperate drive and share it and all inside..)

if still not working, repair the macs permissions...

I was the happy owner of the Samsung BDP-3600. I streamed from my Mac wirelessly, and had NO problems. Just had to select the IP, my computer's username, password, and the folder I was sharing. Boom. Movies streamed flawlessly.

Yesterday I updated my Mac to OS X Lion.

And since then, it's been a disaster. My Samsung BDP-3600 refuses to accept ANY of the usernames or passwords I feed it.

Netflix, however, works fine.

Has anybody else had problems with Lion? Is it just me?

Feeling very lonely out here- especially since Apple and Samsung are playing the "speak to the other guys" game and I virtually have zero support.

I have the exact same problem. Upgraded to Lion....boom. doesn't work anymore.

Tried EVERYTHING. Could it be the lack of Appletalk support?
