United Kingdom Night of the Living Dead cropping?

We have recently read over at the landofwhimsy website that the Blu-Ray transfer of Night of the Living Dead has been botched.

Don May Jr has confirmed that the materials that were supplied were handed over in a "pre-cropped" state and that there wasn't anything that can be done about it.

The result is a transfer that looks pretty cramped at times and is FAR from being the ultimate release of the movie in a home format.

Because Don May Jr commented upon this, it would appear that the same cropped transfer will be used when the movie is eventually released in the U.S.

The Weinstein Company released a DVD of NOTLD (no Blu release) last year in the U.S., and I don't recall any complaints about cropping. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

But they were very minor complaints, mostly noting very minimal cropping effecting the edges. You see a tiny bit more on the Millennium edition, but it's not that different.

And the print was used for Optimum's Blu-Ray in the U.K., and the Weinstein print was shown on AMC-HD this past Halloween, which likely point to an imminent U.S. release likely when Romero's new Dead film is released.

I can't remember where I saw it, but I remember seeing a screenshot comparison and the UK Blu-ray did indeed have some terrible cropping.

Are you by any chance trying to justify your purchase?

There are two U.K. Blu-Rays. Which one are you referring to?

If you don't know where you saw this comparison, then we just have your memory to go on.

I can take shots of both versions from the same scenes myself and do a comparison that way, and then upload the pictures.

And if you are asking me "Are you trying to justify your purchase?" as if to say, I am being dishonest with myself or others in regards to the cropping, then I find you that offensive, as you are questioning my integrity.

I think I actually found the site http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content/id...ving-dead.html

And the Optimum is cropped quite a bit more than the Network version, but otherwise the picture is near perfect. The Network is not cropped but has scratches and skipped frames here and there, but given that it plays in American players, and looks decent otherwise, it will be the definitive Blu-Ray until an official U.S. version surfaces!
