i bought the Sony DAV-DZ260 HTIB system as it seemed a good price but was a bit of a blind buy cause i just bought on price, so i didn't have a clue about this whole Ohms & impedence thing
I was planning on buying a 7.1 HD audio compatible receiver later & hooking these up but then i read somewhere that using such speakers with less ohms than the receiver works with will damage it & burn it out So let's say we have the receiver rated as 8ohms, my speakers say they are 3ohms, so is there a work around or should i just keep them hooked up to my DVD player, optical out to the PS3 & keep with the standard DVD lossy codecs or is there a work around to getting the HD audio portions by hooking the DVD player via HDMI, PS3 in via HDMI into the receiver & then being able to receiver the HD audio? Also, all this amps & pre-amps business confuses me so is there actually a real way to have it explained for a total noob & how it links to receivers as well |

If you go with a better receiver, you shouldn't use the HTIB speakers. The HTIB speakers were designed to be used with the HTIB receiver.
A receiver combines the power amp, preamp/processor, radio tuner & audio/video switcher into a single box. This keeps cost/space needs low & provides for ease of use. Using separates would allow peak performance from each component. If you have a very large room or power hungry speakers, separates would be the way to go. Increased cost/space needs would have to be allowed for. |

If your HTiB Speakers are 3 Ohms,I would be Very Hesitant to hook them up to a receiver. At such a low impeadance level(3 Ohms) they will drive the amps in your receiver Very Hot and Very Hard. They will be much more likely to suffer from distortion and clipping which will blow the speakers. So in this case its a No Win situation on using the speakers with a seperate receiver. With the prices of Home Theater Speaker Sets, buying a complete set of speakers from Polk Audio,Energy,Klipsch, and a few others. They will run from approximately $150 to $250.Then add your seperate receiver and you will have a set up you will not have to worry about either part of the system damaging the other. It would be the best route to start from, even if it means dropping the budget for your receiver down $50 to $100(To help cover the costs of the speaker set). http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16882290066 |

I'll just settle with the lossy 5.1 for now, it still sounds good so HD audio should blow it out the water |
