Default upgrade HTIB sub for PSW-10?

Hello I have been slowly and in moderation upgrading my speakers. Im looking for a better center speaker and possibly a better sub.

I had the rm6750 HTIB, now I have M20 for fronts, M10 for surround, HTIB speakers for rear surround and the HTIB sub.

Now the sub is loud in our small condo....what Im wondering is if I upgrade to a 10" PSW-10 is the bass going to be smoother and more accurate without raising the volume too much.

We haven't had complaints yet and I want to keep it that way...

thanks for any input

Do you have an amt you want to spend? There are plenty of good, affordable subs out there that you could save enough $$$ on and get the center channel too. They will greatly help with sound and give you what you want. I would stay away from the PSW10, as it may not get down too low and it may work with your condo, but there are many ways to get good bass without bothering the neighbors with an even better sub than the PSW10. Try Acoustic Audio, Premier Acoustic and Elemental Designs for excellent subs and even better prices. You can then support the purchase with a subdude from Auralex ( http://www.auralex.com/sound_isolati...de/subdude.asp ). This will help to isolate the sub from the floor, and thus keep your neighbors happy. They really work well, and might be the best fit for your situation.

For a center channel, try this Polk center, the CS1, it is very cheap ($80, MSRP is $200) at this time and it is a good center to match with your M20's.

This is where I would start, but it is just my opinion.....

the thing with the center channel is not the cost its the space as it has to fit on the wall below our mounted TV. So I was looking at the Polk vm20 but they dont sell it anywhere here so something similar.

As for the sub I was looking at that one because it is priced at 150 CAD right now at Futureshop but Im open to anything that sounds better but not costing much more. I will take a look at your suggestions.

For a sub, you can get this AA-HD Sub, $169.00 and free shipping....it is ALOT better than the PSW10 sub too...here is the AA sub Thread. It has links for you and will tell you a lot about the sub from other members…

I understand the center channel dilemma, but you don't want to skimp on your center channel, it is over 50% of the movie you will be listening to. The VM20 you mentioned was a tower speaker. So you want another tower speaker for a center....perhaps that was a typo?

awesome I will take a look.

The vm 20 has a center speaker as well. Here is the link.

http://www.polkaudio.com/homeaudio/center.php#vm

I have seen a few similar speakers with 4 drivers in them that would not stick to far from the wall. we have a z4100 mounted above an in wall fire place so i wouldnt have anywhere to put one of those HUGE polk centers that Ive seen. I agree I feel right now dialogue and anything coming from my center is really poor.

In order to keep the tonal sound of the Movies Front Soundstage the same,a Speaker by the same manufacturer is highly recommended.
Then with most companies having several different lines of speakers, only certain speakers made by a specific company will match their other speakers.

The Polk Audio M10 and M20 speakers are not bad performers in any right(In fact I have owned 2 pairs of M10's I used for surrounds earlier this year)Since you are using Polk M Series Speakers I would recommend using a single Polk Audio M10 speaker as your center speaker.

It matches the drivers and crossovers of the rest of the Polk M-Series speakers you are already using, thus allowing all of the front speakers to sound very similar if not exactally the same.

They share the same polymer material used in each speakers woofers, and also share the same exact tweeter(both size and silk dome material)This will allow sound traveling from just off of the Right of your TV,to transfer from Right to Middle to Left Speakers without there being a shift in the sound from the speakers as they move from one to the other(creating a smooth, seamless transition allowing it to sound as if there is one continious speaker across the entire length of the TV Screen).

True the VM series is somewhat smaller and perhaps a better performer in the center channels role. But you would probably tell a difference in the speakers sound going from a M20 to a VM20 and back to another M20.

Where as sound from a M20 to a M10 and back to a M20 would sound almost identical.
And the M10 has a built in keyhole style wall hanger built in for ease of mounting it on the wall below or above your TV Screen.

And if you need to angle the M10 to have the sound move up or down to give the illusion the sound is coming from the center of the TV screen, you can make something to take care of that.

It could be like a tilted rubber bumper held on the back of the speaker with an adhesive. Then as it is attached to the back of the M10 at an angle(for up or down)the rubber type composition will keep it from bouncing off the wall,as well as dampening any vibrations with the help of the rubber angle "foot" or Back Adjuster.

For the original question, I would advise you to stay away from the PSW10 at all cost. There are so many other great selections you can make for not much more than the cost of a PSW10.

I know that I have heard a lot of good things about acoustic audio but Im not sure where to get any of these here in Vancouver Canada. Anyone know where I can get the best sub for around $200-$400 here or on the net...I would prefer to demo it locally but its not a deal breaker.
