Um dude, I have the disc and it IS 1080i...

Maybe those guys reviewing the disc have players that can handle 1080i content properly.

No its not 1080i

On the backcover it says 1080p and both these reviews says its 1080p and that the PQ is excellent

Just got it myself and i can concur that the PQ is amazing and i got a regular PS3. if its indeed 1080i(wich i doubt it is stating all these facts)

And i really can't see any difference on this Blu Ray. Because i can definetely say like these 2 reviews that the PQ is amazing.

This wouldn't be the first time nor the last when a movie was labeled incorrect on the cover. I see no proof in those links. I do see someone saying that its 1080p, but reviewers make more mistakes than mislabeled covers.

I'm itching to get my hands on this movie. Throughly enjoyed it.

Can anyone tell me what is supposed to be different between 1080i and 1080p. Because i really don't see no difference between them by watching In Bruges wich some say is 1080i. The PQ is on par with all the best Blu ray releases in.

So what is it?

With the popularity that In Bruges has seen since it's release on DVD, I'm shocked that Universal hasn't made any annoucements regarding a North American Blu-ray release.

mredman you have made enough threads ranting about this now calm down. If you got the disc info to pop up while it is playing you will see it is clearly outputting 1080i at 25fps. And those websites are not proof just because the reviewer thinks the transfer is good it does not make it 1080p from 1080i. And they are just displaying the info from the back of the box instead of actually bringing up the info during playback.

edit: also further proof is that the run time would be 4% faster then the theatrical run time.

If you're happy with it, then that should be all that matters to you. Not sure why you feel it's so important to keep bringing it up if you can't tell the difference and you're satisfied.

An excellent film I would pick up if it were released domestically.

A 1080i signal properly interlaced during encoding and PROPERLY deinterlaced during decoding should be identical to a 1080p program. Note the word PROPERLY. If improperly encoded or decoded there can be a significant loss of quality.

Ok thanks Wallendo. The only thing bothering me with this release is that it has no subtitles.

how are you shocked? Universal sucks hard! they have released one (Street Fighter)...two (Do the Right Thing)...three (8 Mile) catalog titles that were never on HD DVD. just three. They sit on an enormous, wealthy library of titles, and rather than do the job, they sit on their thumbs, seeing if perhaps they can penetrate their pants into their shit factories if they press hard enough.

the chances of us seeing in bruges are slim until they get off their asses (and remove their fingers FROM said orifice), and give consumers what they actually want.

Roger Ebert gave this a 4 out of 4 star rating and no Blu-ray release in US and A, very strange!

Getting back to the Australian release, to my mind the main issue is not that it is interlaced (as people have pointed out, a good de-interlacer will make this transparent) but that it is playing at 25fps rather than 24fps.

It was bad enough that PAL DVDs of films played at the wrong speed - I was fondly hoping that we had put all that behind us with Blu-ray.

Yeah it sucks that are almost going back to the DVD days for us Australians. Damnit why did they convert it to 25fps when the DI is 24fps? It makes no sense!

Yeah i know its very weird.
But that said the PQ is outstanding on it even if its 1080i.
But it must be a misprint because on the backcover it says its 1080p and all the reviews lists it as 1080p also. So really think they made a mistake on the disc. Because obviously it was meant to be 1080p. Don't know what the hell went wrong there
