Default Thoughts?? Movies released on Blu-ray!!!!

Man how do yall feel about when a movie comes out on bluray and u buy it, then 6 months or a year later they drop the same movie on bluray with more stuff, like unlimited edition, or special edition?? I hate that!! I see they are comin out with Transformers "Special Edition" and frowned!! Haha!! Also like 300 which is dropping another one this week!! Do yall buy them again or what are yall thoughts on this?? I would hate to wait on the 2nd one and not buy the first release and be without the movie for along time!! Got Em!!

To be honest while I DO like special features I will NOT replace a movie I own with a new version unless there are appreciable differences, like say a better audio track or a longer cut.

This is nothing new, we've been dealing with the "double dip" trend since the days of Laserdisc. If you weren't around for that, let me tell you, we used to think nothing of dropping $100+ on a Criterion special edition. I laugh sometimes when people complain about blu-ray prices.

Anyway, I've learned to be happy with what I've got, for the most part. If the first release had great quality, then I'm typically fine with it.

I really only upgrade a few select titles if super-special editions come out later on. But I'm not likely to re-buy anything for a few meaningless extras or a new shiny cover. There has to be something really compelling, like a new cut of the film, a new commentary or something worthwhile like that.

Even then, if I'm happy with the first release, I may pass on the double-dip.

I will not be very likely to want to buy a movie once again just for special features. I get more annoyed when it's adding scenes as I like more in movies then the theatrical cuts. That is why I am now more careful with quick purchases and keep a ear to the ground to see if there might not be some rumors of a director's or extended cut coming out.

I usually don't double dip unless it's a new and better transfer. I won't buy for more special features or extra scenes.

Usually hate it. But yeah, also very used to it.

Sometimes it works though. Before I had a blu-player, I desperately wanted Casino Royale. By the time I bought one, the collectors ed. was out

It really depends how special the edition is. If I have a bare bones movie and they come out with an awesome special edition then I will probably buy it. I would pass on the 300 edition coming out. I heard if you own the previous blu, that there is no point to upgrade.

Good feedback yall!! Yea I know even in standard dvd's there are movies like that!! I had bought the original Shawshank redemption then they came out with the anniversary addition and i went out and bought that one to!! I dont like doin that!! My boy said that its rare if any that a 2nd release of a bluray will be retransferred so if that aint the case he wasnt gonna replace anything other than better PQ which is unlikely!! Just checkin cause Transformers is one of my fav movies and I am thinkin about buying the special edition but Ill have to see exactly what they have to offer!! Got Em!!

I hate that they do it, but as long as people will double dip, they will continue. I don't watch special features, so most limited editions, etc. are meaningless to me. The only way to bait me back a second time is with an extended version of the movie. Deleted scenes don't count. They have to have been put back in the movie.

I have upgraded a bunch of DVDs to Blu, but haven't felt the need for a Blu-Blu double dip yet. What does bother me, is the big budget, highly anticipated movies like 300 and Transformers that took WAY too long to be released on Blu without any decent extras. I guess thats all part of the game, and as long as we keep buying those Super-Ultimate-Unrated Editions, studios will keep doin it.

I normally don't buy movies for the special features, I tend to buy them for the film itself. Of course, there are some exceptions to this, such as the Watchmen Maximum Movie Mode... can't wait to watch it.

Like many people have posted, I'll only double dip if there is a significant increase in PQ or AQ, or if there is a much better extended cut. I learned my lesson on the many, many different copies of Terminator 2 I have lying around.
Unfortunately, I foolishly bought the T2: Skynet Edition for the extended cut, and the DTS-HD MA, when I really should have just imported the UK T2 release.

What do you mean another Transformers: Special Edition? There is only one Blu-ray Disc release and its a two disc set that was recently upgraded via BD-Live 2.0 to include new special features.

300 was released before Profile 1.1 players were the norm so it missed out on the picture-in-picture Bluescreen comparison track. On top of that, it was released in 2007, two years ago! Warner always promised to rectify the missing track with a re-release. And now with the home video release of Zach Synder's recent Watchment, they can. They even went further and did up a digibook release with even more special features then the previous releases.

Special edition releases are always guaranteed to happen again. Some films are fast trscked for release and promised special features are left off because of time or clearance restraints. Sure, the Blu-ray could always be authored Profile 2.0 so new features could be downloaded (like Transformers) but sometimes a new release also means a new transfer or audio track which is hard to provide with BD-Live.

I'll probably end up with 3 copies of Watchmen. The one out today, a Steelbook that will remain sealed, and if that ultimate edition comes out in Dec. then I'll get that also.

Just because you don't like them doesn't mean everyone else feels the same way.

The one coming out on the 28th is the same two-disc special edition out now but with MovieCash for G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra.
