Default Will I still enjoy Blu-ray in a 1080i resolution?

I want to buy a blu-ray but I´ve heard they look excelent on 1080p resolution and my tv only supports 1080i. I am not buying another tv but I still want a blu-ray. Will I still enjoy blu-rays in this resolution? Or does it strictly have to be displayed on a 1080p resolution?
Is it convenient for me to buy a blu ray and watch movies in this resolution?

Buy the blu-ray. 1080i is almost imperceptible from 1080p.

I have a 70" (1080p TV) and the T-3 blu-ray was mistakenly made in 1080i. I can barely tell the difference even on a 70 inch HD set.

I have a 42" Panasonic Plasma 720p/1080i......and Blu-ray's look terrific. I don't plan on getting a 1080p HDTV for several years yet. Go and get yourself a BDP and enjoy!

Yes, you can enjoy a beautiful picture on a 720p/1080i television. I have demonstrated my own player (Sony BDP-S350) on a 1080i rear projection family room TV over a component video signal and the picture was outstanding. He immediately purchased a second 1080p LCD TV for his living room (kept his 1080i TV in the family room) and upgraded his satellite TV package to HD.

I agree with everyone else. In addition to the equipment in my sig/gallery, I have a 30" Toshiba 1080i CRT HDTV. I had it before my new setup, and I had the Blu-ray player connected to it. It looks fantastic. Go for it.

I own a 1080i DLP that's about 5 years old. The picture from a blu-ray is excellent. One of the first things I did when I first got a BD was to compare the image with the a DVD of the same title. You can tell the difference in resolution and color saturation. Definitely worth it. I'll upgrade to a full HDTV eventually. Until then, BD is excellent. I hardly buy any DVDs anymore if a BD equivalent exist.

Yes, you'll enjoy it. It will look just as good as 1080p and unlike cable or satellite, you won't have tiling or blocking break-ups either! it will be smooth and pretty!

I agree with everyone else. I have a 40" 720p/1080i lcd and the difference between blu and dvd (even upconverted) is amazing.

Definitely! I bought my first BD player when I got my first hdtv [720p] and I loved it! I still do! Still have one hooked up to it! The PQ is better in leaps and bounds next to HD braodcasts via the BD player!

One thing that a lot of people forget to remember is that 720p/1080i signals are still high definition resolutions. It will definitely look great, especially compared to your dvd's, so don't hold back!

While my TV is a 1080p set... The cable provider I use broadcasts in 1080i and I gotta say the picture quality is superb.

Exactly. HD > SD every time, all the time.

there is actually native 768p screen cannot fully display 1080i signal....

yes a native 768p tv can decode 1080i signal but downsclaes it to 768i.... so you are actually missing about 50% of the picture.

that is why a native 1080p screen is a big improvement...

not sure that's true.... but too lazy to look up links to support an argument right now...... so you win

if you're saying there are "some" out there that do this, then I agree 100%

You will absolutely see the benefit of Blu-ray on a 1080i display! Up until just over a month ago I had a 1080i rear-projection TV and Blu-ray looked excellent on it.

A couple things to remember, if your screen is on the smaller side, say 40" or less, or if you view from a distance, you won't see a big difference with 1080p vs. 1080i anyway.
