Default Deciding between two HTIAB

YAMAHA YHT-391BL 5.1-Channel Home Theater System

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...aha-_-82115198

Onkyo HT-S3200 5.1-Channel Home Entertainment Receiver/Speaker Package

http://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-HT-S3200...8389869&sr=8-2

I'm ordering one of the two tonight, wanted your opinion on which to go with for that price range. I got to try the Yamaha at Frys and liked the sound quality, thought the sub sounded pretty good as well, but I haven't physically been able to try out the Onkyo, but hear good things about it aside from the sub. I'll be using it for PS3/Blu-ray, Xbox 360, and Comcast cable. Also, I have my computer hooked up to my tv via dvi-hdmi, but is there any way I can run the surround sound to it as well?

if you liked the sound of the yamaha you should go with that.

on a side note - what is your reason for going with an htib? price? convenience? i would suggest piecing together your own system over either system.

either way, i'm sure you'll have fun with your system

The price range and I wanted a HtiaB so I could have a good entry level surround sound system w/a receiver. It's going in my room until I move out, but wanted something I know will last me several years, which is why I've been torn between these two brands, because I've enjoyed both.

I know nothing about the Onkyo.

I bought the Yamaha setup in silver about 4 years ago and returned it. Distorted too quickly for me. Might not be a problem in a bedroom, or if you just don't like it loud...but if you do, I'd stay away. JMHO.

I agree with prank - save a couple more bucks and piece together a budget system...Pioneer, Yamaha and Onkyo all make decent entry-level receivers (I own one), and you can find good deals on bookshelf speakers. Then save for a small sub and you'll have a setup that will last a long time, even after you upgrade (bedroom/family room system when you have an apartment or house).

But if you're stuck on the HTiB, and want it now, go for the Onkyo.

I'd have to recommend the Onkyo as well. I have an Onkyo system and couldn't be happier!

Just make sure you know that the Onkyo system has HDMI Pass Thru only, you will need a separate connection for your audio..

I know a few people who bought a HTIB, and none of them got "Several Years" of enjoyment from it.

Your results may differ of course.... but if it's a bedroom, why not start out with a 2-channel setup.

I'd go with the Onkyo hands down, if the room is not too big. A friend of mine has a similar Onkyo HTIB in a small room he framed in for his basement. Due to the size of the room, the system provides plenty of ommph and sounds pretty good. Besides someday when you go to upgrade your theater setup, you can move your HTIB to a bedroom, or perhaps hook it up to a computer, which is what I did.

I'd go with the Onkyo! Just last year or so I bought the Onkyo 3100 system and was very happy with it.

I still have the speakers (minus the sub) and upgraded the receiver.

Thanks
