Default Supreme Court Ruling Could Boost HDTV Prices

Looks like manufactories can now set a minimum price on electronics which experts are claiming that HDTV prices are going to go up in a few months.

It could also mean a price drop before Christmas as well. Hopefully retail stores will be running specials like they normally do. With the players going down in price that could mean some tv manufacturers might drop their prices as well.

They can stop them from selling below the MAP, but that can't stop them from offering other types of things like rebates or gift cards to make the price lower. A place where I shop so often, sells most major new release DVDs at $12.99, which is below the MAP. They still advertise, I don't think they care. A few times they have offered $10 with the purchase of the DVD at $19.99.

Most likly including the dreaded 'Instant Refund'.

This is really just another nail in the coffin of the hard-sell electronics stores where you still try to haggle your pricepoint. With the minimum price points known, well, the savvy consumer is able to just request those flat out.

this might be some propaganda to have consumers buy existing inventory.

this is a a sales strategy, building a sense of urgency for consumers!

because savvy consumers like I are just waiting for prices to drop.

Go Blu Ray!

I hope it hurts everyone nobodys gonna buy over-priced tv's, if we know we can get a sony for like 1400 and in 1 year its gonna be 2k who would do that? the manufactures are gonna lose money when people stop buying there over priced stuff....everyone loses with this if its even true...... any semi-educated person wouldnt ever see one price now and say "oh ill wait till it comes down to 1200, and then you check back in 6-12 mo and its 1900" noone should be that dumb consumers should show them they need 2 fix this, if in-fact this will be the "new" trend......... also everyone should remember even in the title of the thread COULD

The thing with this is it is designed to effect the online vendors more-so than retail stores.

No longer will you walk into a retail store and have the "this is XXX less online @ website.com" conversation.

I think it's a great thing for consumer's and retailers alike. more people will buy in-store as opposed to online, and you generally have a better experience tha way if you are not a 'tech savvy' individual.

Also, it is not ever a good idea to 'wait on the price to fall' because you will always be waiting, and technology passes you by more easily. If you can find a salesman who cares anything about his job and helping you buy what you want, you won't have to wait on pricing or whatever else.

This is probably in response to Wal*Mart dropping the prices of flat panels last black friday which started a chain reaction that resulted in the closing of hundreds of Circuit City, CompUSA, and Tweeter stores.
