Default Just get speakers??? or do the whole thing??

I figure its time to upgrade my sound system.

I currently have a 4-5 year old Denon HTIB. 5.1 DTS/Digital. Very basic surround speakers and center channel. But, a very nice powered sub that just seems better than the rest of the speakers.

I never listen to music with this. Just my TV and games. My living room is limited to speaker placement so unless i move. 5.1 is all i'm gonna be doing. Is there any real reason to get another receiver.??? would it be better to dump the money into some really nice speakers?? My friend has this basic all in one JVC HTIB. and he spent good money on speakers and it sounds bad ass.!! Here is what i was looking at.

One of these 2.

Energy Take

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_732TAKE...-0.html?tp=184 (without the sub. since i already have a good powered one)

^ ^ these are pretty low priced.. but, get good reviews everywhere i've seen so far.

So i'm looking at about $600 tops for speakers. And if i go with one of the Energy speaker sets i could do a Receiver too. I've been looking at some Onkyo ones that seem good.

Any opinions.? or suggestions. I haven't done anything with my surround sound for years like i said.. so its like starting all over. i do have a budget. But, i wanna do it right. Since i've gonna have it for a good 4-5 years again.

If you want to do it right so that it will last you, I say save up some more and demo gear with your price range. Energy makes good speakers. But if you can save it some more and maybe stretch your budget to 1000, I think you could build a very pleasing system. Others will chime in.

I personally spent $150 upgrading my speakers. I too have a five-year old system, but the upgrade will be fairly minimum without upgrading your receiver.

Dependingon what ohm those HTiB speakers are, you could look into upgrading piece by piece. It takes longer, but maximizes your investment. You will need to take some time and think about what you ultimate goal is and them research various products. If you go for the higher end of any product line, you will see that they tend to change less frequent so you need not worry as much about a matching speaker not being there the following year.

This, of course, is just my opinion and is what I am currently doing.

I have the Quintet III's, but I am using them for my surrounds and they do sound amazing for some small speakers.

Instead of buying from bestbuy, Amazon has them for $298 right now.

Stretch the budget, Get an AVR, and three fronts, and connect whatever you have left for surrounds/sub for the meantime.

That's my suggestion (not knowing the speakers you currently have of course)

How much you stretch your budget would depend on what speakers you want.

I'm guessing you have a PS3, so there are multiple AVRs that will get you the Lossless audio.... for a very budget minded one, I would recommend this based off of personal experience with the brand in general (2 other models currently, and one past one)

but with your PS3 you could get away with using this.....

I know it's $50 more, but it's a heck of a lot more power, and your PS3 will decode the audio..... I have a 5001 and a 7001 both connected to PS3s, and this is the model between them (the 6001)

Found this as a special too..... if you want it "ALL RIGHT NOW" this is a hell of a deal, and better than any HTIB you'll look at.

That special is great price...... but I'd audition speakers and build slowly if I were you.
