Default PS1 and PS2 Widescreen

Is there anyway to make it fill the entire screen? Is there a firmware update in the talks to make that happen or is it just something that's accepted?

Yes, just go to the Game Settings and it should give you a display and softening option. Under the display option, you can choose Full Screen and it will fit your entire display.

Negative. There's an inch of black bars around the display. Making my 32 inch widescreen into an affective 30 inch widescreen.

Actually on my display it still doesn't fill the whole screen still the same, it still doens't fill the sides of the screen. I have a 40in samsung hdtv 1080i. Hate that crap. It fills in the top and bottom but it always has I had a ps2 and a ps3 but both never filled the sides. So full screen doesn't change nothing but make it the same, now when I put it on widescree, the picture is just a little box in the screen.

I've been playing Final Fantasy Tactics for the PS1 on a 42" 1080p display and I get small black bars on the sides when set to fullscreen.

You will always get black bars on the side when playing a PS2/PS1 games.

I get black bars on the side when I play my PS2 games on my PS2 with my display.

As different PS1 and PS2 games had different resolutions and amounts of bordering (even the same game between different regions), a manual overscan adjustment would need to be added. Hopefully it's in the works.

Turn off upscaling completely, and it'll revert to analog image filling the screen.

The games aren't widescreen, so they are not displayed wide.

Some games are widescreen - God of War 2, Gran Turismo 4, etc.

Then set those games to widescreen in the options and then under PS3 game settings choose full screen, it works for me with Lego SW 2, so I don't see why it wouldn't work for you.

There is still a tiny border at the top and bottom, but come on these games weren't created with HDtv's in mind, they are designed for CRT televisions that lose part of the screen due to the plastic front piece that overlaps the screen.

PS3 is good, but even it has limits!! I can't see how this can be affecting your enjoyment of the game.

FF12 looks really weird actually if you're running the upscaler in some of the settings.

I get this 4:3 mini-box screen, and if I set the in-game aspect ratio to 16:9, it gets this nice swishing going on. [ie, 16:9 ratio fit to the 4:3 virtual screen space].

I can set the PS3 to 'full' screen mode, which creates a virtual 16:9 space [which is better]. Although the only way I've managed to get full screen saturation again is by turning off the game upscaling.
