Default How do you become a reviewer?

Is there any way to become an official reviewer?

Usually they post a thread asking for applicants when a position is open. At least thats what I saw when they requested someone to review Anime films.

I often thought and fantasized about reviewing movies and or gear...I think its fun to do that at first but when work piles up and dead lines are upon you, it starts to become draining. Nonetheless, I would love the opportunity do so

Perhaps the key to it all. It would be easy if I did a review.

"Holy crap, this flick is AWESOME!"

or

"Man, I think this puppy sucks!".

John

PS~ Ratings would depend on how I felt that day.

I used to run a movie review website, so I was just wondering.

Man it would be a good excuse with the wife for having to have reference gear.

If you were reviewing gear, another drawback would be having to give up all that great gear after you're done with it.

That would be about how my ratings looked. Short and to the point.

Being part of a site that reviews DVD's or Blu-ray's helps. Also, having the numbers (unique visitors and page views) is also important. And as mentioned, having the equipment helps.

I started off with anime back in 1993 with LD's and then eventually DVD. From that point on, major entertainment companies in Japan for their music entertainment and Asian companies for their films and eventually networking and establish relationships with companies for review of their Blu-ray titles. As for writing, I was editor-in-chief of my college newspaper, worked for other publications and PR companies and have had a website which also helped.

If you want to review, my best advice is to write your reviews and post them on your site or work for other other sites. Build your credibility.

The last thing I can say is make sure you want to do reviews and are open to reviewing what your editor/boss has for you. I have known people who say they want to do reviews but when they get a title, artist or genre that they are not familiar with or takes them out of their comfort zone, they disappear. Also, to know if you do have the time to do reviews and meet deadlines.

Good luck!
