I have an Onkyo 805 that claims 130watts per channel. This is inside a medium size room and I have a 7.1 set-up. After I run the Audyssey and check the speaker levels, I get something like -3's, -2.5’s and so on.
What I was wondering. If I connect a 200watt per channel amp and I run the Audyssey again, should I get about the same numbers as far as speaker levels or since more power is available per channel, will the numbers be lower like -12 for all speakers? ***Edit*** After I posted this, I thought about it, I think this should be in 'Audio Theory' and not 'Amp and Receivers'... a mod can move if they like. Thanks for the move!!
Does anyone understand what I am asking? I guess the bottom line of my question, can/will the amp added power kinda mess up the audyssey speaker levels? If so, I guess the ole SPL meter is better then using the audyssey in the unit |

I think to answer your questions: yes, you will need to readjust the levels (I recommend running Audyssey again and then fine tuning). Audyssey will run fin with the amp, it's just that you need to run it again since your gear changed. |

But remember +10dB is double the loudness. Anyway but I'm not sure exactly what is the relationship between switching from the internal amp to an external amp via the analog outs. |

I was thinking that the audyssey while running it's setup uses certain signals and signal strength.
Since we don't control the volume during that set-up then the signal strength is the same. It would seem by adding an amp that signal is going to be boosted by quite abit and since the mic is listening for that sound. I am thinking that it's going to be louder or it would seem closer to the speaker then it really is, because of the boost in volume. As if tricking the amp, I know a person is not trying to trick the amp, but it seems like the amp would be off with distance and lower the db for that speaker. Or something like, without a amp and a person ran audyssey and place the mic right next to a speaker. Since that speakers is so close to the mic it would seem louder then the rest and the receiver would lower the db on that channel. |
