Not a single post afterwards. I don't know if I should take that as a hint given the price.
Any experiences with this player? |

Almost 6 months since the LAST post...
I had looked at this player. I wanted something high end, and while this player had a high end price...i felt ehh. Well, i just bought one at about $400 off its list. I guess they are moving them out to make room for this years player. Beautiful picture, and now at a great price. Look around for deals on this machine, they are easy to find...for now. I have only had it 2 days, and while i have not had much time to throw stuff at it, it does produce a nice Blu-ray, and DVD image. My TV is a Sony 52" XBR LCD. The Blu-ray player and TV were meant for one another. Just thought id throw a quick 2 cents out, if anyone had an interest in this player. |

Hello all, sorry to add this reply here but i dont yet have privelage to make new thread.
Hopefully somebody can help me with this decision. My question is simply, which would you get....the Samsung BD-C6500 for $224 or the BDP-S1000ES for $200. The reason I am deciding between these two is 1. the price is around my budget and 2. I need a 5.1/7.1 analog hookup as I have an older receiver, and so basically rules out the new sony 570, or LG, or ps3 slim, or other more expensive units. fairly equal in both (I assume): video/audio quality, wifi, BDP-S1000ES Pros: cheaper, better build quality, looks nicer, comes with 4gig storage, 5 year warranty, componant video out, and coax audio out (i dont care about these last 2), DLNA Certified in ONLY photo (con) BD-C6500 pros: DLNA Certified in audio/video/photo, video streaming software (pandora, netflix, etc) So essentially, is the 50 dollar price difference, and better build quality worth it over DLNA certified, and internet streaming or should I sacrifice these useful features given everything else being equal? Any feedback would be appreciated, especially those that have experience with these units. |

I just picked up one of these on closeout from the local Best Buy for $89.99. It was a demo in a cabinet, but did not look like it had been used hardly at all (there was not even a remote for it out anywhere). I got the player, power cord and proper remote and it is under warranty as new.
There is a new firmware version on the Sony site, so I let it update itself over the internet. It seems to be working very nicely, so far - so it probably will be a permanent replacement for my S550. |

How funny, I just got one as a replacement for my S550 as well. My S550 has started being picky about what BR it wants to play. Sometimes I have to load the movie over and over to get it to load. I tried cleaning the lens and resetting the player, but nothing helps. I could not find a BB that had one left, so I got a new one from Vann's for $178, no shipping or tax. It is supposed to arrive tomorrow. I could care less about streaming, I have an xBox that gets Netflix and I hardly use it anyway. You never will have the video or audio quality on streaming that you can get on a BR disc, at least not until they make a huge upgrade to broadband, and I get 35/35 with Fios. |

I expect and hope you will be at least as pleased with yours when you get it. Last edited by Rich86; 10-18-2010 at 09:27 PM. |

Anyone have problems playing Criterion titles?
I rented Walkabout and Days of Heaven, both will not load, unknown disc message will appear. I want to pick up some movies during Barnes and Noble 50% off sale but worried they won’t play. |

You have posted the same thing in both a S550 and S1000ES threads. Do you have both players and these rented titles fail in both? Are the discs clean and undamaged? Do you have the current firmware installed in these players?

I just bought the 1000ES player myself about a month ago. I like it a lot, it was on clearance at Best Buy fro $100. Looks great, reg DVDs and Blu-Rays look amazing on my 46B640 Samsung. No complaints here. And while I own 3 Samsung TVs - I would go with a Sony or Panasonic Blu-Ray player...I had 2 Samsung Blu Ray players before and I had too many issues with them...
the 1000ES rules if you can get it for a reasonable price! ![]() |

I’ve done some research on these titles and its been reported that these discs defective. I don’t know if there are new pressings out there but the ones I’ve rented were defective. I also tried used copies of both movies from my local buy and sell store and they both failed. |

Just picked up the BDP S1000es for $200 a couple months ago.
It's my first blu ray player so I don't have much to compare it to, but so far I've been very very satisfied. Blu rays look fantastic but I'm really impressed with this unit's DVD upscaling. My family had been watching episodes of Six Feet Under on my old Sony DVD player, and one night I switched to the BDP; everyone noticed a huge upgrade in picture quality, which I didn't expect. Load times are hard to judge since I've never had anything to compare it to, but they certainly haven't bothered me at all. The leap in quality over DVD is well worth the 10-15 second wait. BestGuy: I just bought Seven Samurai, Yojimbo/Sanjuro, and Chungking Express from Criterion and have had no problems with playback. The only Blu I havent been able to play was the Watchman. I rented it so it could have been faulty. The player indicated it couldn't read the disc. The firmware is up to date. Not sure what's up that. ![]() Otherwise, it's a great blu ray player for us movie fans that don't need a bunch bells and whistles like 3D or video streaming. |

I am thoroughly enjoying my BDP-S1000ES, however, every now and then I run into a compatibility issue with menu programming on certain titles. Tonight's adventure involved the blu-ray title "Letters To Juliet". Sometimes when you click the menu item to play the movie, it would just start cycling through the main menu background video with no way out. If I restart it and go to select a scene, and pick the first chapter, then the movie would play. Other times, I can select "play" the movie in the main menu, and it plays just fine. All other aspects of the menu work fine (special features, set-up, etc.).
Is this the title? The firmware in the player? The menu programming incompatibility issues which crop up somewhat frequently on blu-ray titles is an aspect of the format that is really annoying! |
