Default PlayStation Network cards to be available in $10 denomination

PlayStation Network cards to be available in $10 denomination
by Andrew Yoon { Aug 10th 2009 at 1:15PM }

Quote:
Prepaid PlayStation Network cards currently come in two flavors: $20 and $50. For those of you that don't want to shell out the big bucks on the PSN will be glad to know that a new variation is coming: the $10 denomination. Best Buy has a listing for the cheaper card, in addition to a $20 prepaid LittleBigPlanet-branded "collectible art" card. While this isn't the most exciting news around, it's nice to know our credit card-less friends have a few more options than they did before.

It's about time. That's great news. I hated having to get a $20 when I never really needed that much.

$10 bucks covers practically nothing, 1 PSOne game or 1 smaller PSN game or add on....maybe they plan to finally put up a Music store and start selling MP3s?

Ya, sometimes you don't need so much though. A lot of times that's all I get is small PSN games or add ons. I know there are also times when I have left over money and i want to get something, but I don't want to fork over $20 bucks for a card when I only need about $10. So this is definitely good news.

Awesome, another PSN card denomination for Best Buy to NOT KEEP IN STOCK!!!

I recently started getting PSN cards at Best Buy instead of using my credit card on the PSN, so now I can earn Reward Zone points. The thing is, Best Buy stores in the area NEVER have the $20 cards, so I had to get $50 PSN cards. I have a feeling they do it on purpose too.

Out of curiosity, do you pay taxes when you buy PSN cards in CA? If so, I don't think it's worth buying the cards just to get Rewards points.....

Nope. No taxes on PSN cards. That'd be ridiculous if there was.

If CA (or any other state) charged tax for these cards, then you would be getting taxed twice for your purchases, once for the gift card and once for the purchase of the DLC...I bought my first $20 card a few weeks ago to purchase two of the summer discount games and I was highly disappointed that I was charged tax...

It would only work if you had ~$1 to cover the TAX on the purchase...or do those in the UK not pay tax on these purchases?

I don't have a clue about any of that stuff to be honest.

Californians don't get taxed for prepaid PSN card purchases in retail stores or for purchases from the online PS Store. So, a $9.99 game really is $9.99

In Canada, a 9.99$ game is 11.29$ because of taxes

Unless you live in Alberta. $10.49 ftw!

The cards won't be taxed, they're likely classified along the same lines as gift cards or pre-paid credit cards. Taxes come when the money is actually "spent".
