Default Closing threads

Would it be possible for the member who starts a thread to have the ability to close a thread?

I started a thread earlier - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=110053 - and jwbbud answered my question. It would be handy if I could now close my thread, saving mods time and effort as I am sure they spend enough time searching for what threads can be closed?

I think giving the OP this option would be handy and would help keep the forums in order!

If this is possible, it could come in handy and help the mods.

Yeah I think so. Or even the option to flag a post so that the mods can quickly find what needs to be closed when scanning through the forum?

No it wouldn't be possible without making that member an actual mod. Just report your post and move on, that's what I do.

My opinion is it would be useful however and its possible to do but it would result in threads being closed if an arguement isnt going a certain way, etc. Its bound to happen

My suggestion would to be use the report button and just state, please close.

yup.

deleting your own thread would be way less of a hassle to get set up..and for those that don't know...the mod's can see what you delete. so it could be undeleted if it had to be.

interesting idea...i agree with jw though in that too many members would probably close their own threads just because they personally don't like the road it's going down (either out of disagreement or someone insulting them etc..better to just pm a mod)

i do think it's not a bad idea to give members the ability to retitle their own threads if they need to, but then again, it only takes 10 seconds to pm a mod to do it

I agree completely. I think this is much more doable and would present less of a concern as JW outlined with the thread closure part. Again, some members may choose to use such a feature gratuitiously, just because they can.

I think it's a horrible idea. What will I do for fun when someone posts an unpopular opinion and everyone jumps on him, and then he just closes the thread? I'll have no fun-time work reading!

I think this is an excellent idea. To me it seems like a waste of a mod's time to have to tend to errands that are so petty. There's no reason for a member of this forum not to be able to retitle their own threads IMO.
